Waterloo, June 16, 1948. The Seventeenth Annual meeting of the Women's Auxiliary of the Evangelical Lutheran Seminary of Canada and Waterloo College was held at St. John's Parish Hall with 150 members present, representing -- New Hambrug [ Hamburg ], Preston, Tavistock, St. Matthew's Kitchener, St. Peter's, Kitchener, St. Mark's, Kitchener, St. John's, Waterloo, St. Luke's Sunnyside, Conestoga, St. Jacob's, Bridgeport, Elmira, Heidelberg, Trinity, Hamilton, Hespeler, Logan, Milverton, Stratford, Hanover, Hesson Rd., Listowe [ Listowel ], Ellis, Sherwood. The meeting was opened by the President, Mrs. Gillespie. Miss Emma Schorten conducted opening_ devotions and prayer the Scripture reading taken from St. John 4: 31- Mrs. Gillespie then introduced Dean Schaus who spoke to the ladies on Waterloo College. He told the ladies what the Women's Auxiliary had done for the boys while he was in College. Open House was held once a month and the boys were responsible for having their rooms neat and clean for the visitors. He said in the past ten years a great many changes have taken place . In 1937 there were about 50 - 75 students attending college - today there are 200 students. Now there are about as many girls as boys. They also have a Male Chorus which is drawing the attention of a great many people with Dr. Leupold doing an admirable piece of work. The Girls' Dormitory meant so much to the girls that one graduate said - "several years living in residence should be made part of our education. Many new courses have been added to the curriculum at Waterloo College also classes in religion. He said there is a Christian attitude among the student body at the college. He also said there is more room for many more Lutheran students- the enrolment of 208 students this year of which 28% were Lutheran. We are way below average. The United States has 8% of higher learning and less than 1% in Canada. There should be more effort made to have. more Lutheran men and women go to College. "Your efforts in supporting the College and Seminary are greatly appreciated. May God bless you in your work." He was thanked by Mrs. Gillespie. The Secretary read the Minutes of the last annual meeting and they were approved as read. There was a lettler from Dean Schaus informing we that Miss Louise Bonkowski was awarded the 100 Auxiliary Scholarship. A card of appreciation from Miss Bonkowski was read. The Treasurer's report was read showing, a balance in the bank of 41762.74 and was approved as read. Roll call was taken and Conference delegates giving their rports [ reports ]. Mrs. Gillespie introduced Miss Marion Axford who spoke on the Girls' Dormitory.
