Waterloo, Ont., June 20, 1945. The Fourteenth Annual Meeting of the Women's Auxiliary of Waterloo College and Seminary was held in St. John's Parish Hall with 165 Members present. Representatives were present from - Conestoga, Bridgeport, Elmira, Preston, Tavistock, Listowel, New Hamburg, St. Mark's, St. Peter's, St. Matthew's, St. John's, Waterloo, Stratford, Linwood, Galt, Wallace, St. Luke's, St. Jacobs, Nova Scotia, making a representation of 18 Auxiliaries. The Meeting was opened by the President, Mrs. Gillispie. Rev. Karl Knauff was in charge of the opening devotions and prayer. Mrs. Gillispie introduced the speaker Dr. J. Schmieder. His subject being on Higher Education. He extended greetings from the Board of Governors. In his address he said, "Your Auxiliary has never met for its annual meeting under circumstances so auspicious as today. with greater hope into the immediate future." The curriculum he said will shortly be extended to cover training of deaconesses, business administration and expansion of the science course. The speaker praised the work of the Auxiliary and in a brief history the work of its activities. He complimented Mrs. J. Conrad, Mrs. Hagen, aid Mrs. Stalhschmidt, three of the original members whose foresight was instrumental in organizations of the group 30 years ago. The Charter now provides that the Institution may hold property or money without limit. Former figures were $50,000.00 and later 000,000.00 The Board set-up includes representation from Nova Scotia, and Alumanae and other Lutheran bodies.other than the Canada Synod. He also stated that during the operation of the Auxiliary 100 [ illegible ] ministers have graduated from the Seminary, 200 students have received Bachelor of Arts degrees, and 10 have given their lives in the war. He also said that Dr. Lehmann was one of the youngest presidents of any college in North America. New comers to the staff include Dr. A. Potter, professor of History, Dr. Ulrich Leupold, professor of Music, who will organize a Glee Club and choir. Professor Edward Cleghorn in Art, Mrs. Seymour, Public Speaking, and Mrs. Arthur Moyer, Librarian and Secretary. He lauded Mr. C. N. Weber and Mr. C.H. Musselman for their work in It "There neve was a time when we looked forward clearing the school of debt and expressed gratitude for a bequest from the late Jacob B. Martin, non-lutheran, amounting to more than $11,000.00 . Bequests from non- Lutheran courses during the past year amounted to $30,000.00 Greetings were extended by Mrs. Gillispie [ Gillespie ]. The Secretary read the minutes of the last annual meeting and were approved as read.
