2 THE CANADA LUTHERAN. LUTHER LEAGUE CONVENTION. The eighth annual convention of the Luther League of Canada was held in First English Lutheran Church, Berlin, Ont., on Monday, May 24, 1915. The convention opened at 9.30 a.m., Rev. H. J. Behrens, Pastor of, the Convention Church, conducted the opening matin service after which Mr. G. Boyer, Pres., of the Canada Luther League, called the convention to order. Rev. Behrens gave the address of welcome on behalf of the local league to which President Boyer responded. Business was then proceeded with and continued throughout the morning. The Credential Committee reported that 18 leagues were represented by 50 delegates and over a hundred visitors. The Extension Committee reported that two new leagues had made application for membership into this body. They were unanimously received and heartily welcomed. The Treasurer's report showed the finances of the organization to be in a very healthy condition. The report of the delegates to the International Luther League convention at Baltimore last Fall was read and received. . The president appointed the following committees: Nominating--Rev. H. A. Kunkle and Messrs. Schultz and Bechman; Resolutions--Rev. N. Willison, Mr. Glasser, and Misses Vollmer and C. Paulsen; Extension and Credentials--Mr. Tennyson, Mr. Cooper and Miss Kern; Press--Rev. J. J. Clemens and E. Beckman; Auditing-- Rev. W. H. Knauff and Mr. Bornhold. The offering was then taken after which the • first session was adjourned. Second Session. The afternoon session opened at 2.30 p.m. Rev. J. J. Clemens conducted the.opening service. Business was then resumed and among other things it was decided to have the Luther League take over the conducting of the Student,Aid Fund and to promote it more in future than has been done in the past. It was also decided to have Canadian patriotic topics published in the "Canada Lutheran" whenever patriotic events occur; also to have other topics prepared to take the place of American patriotic topics when these are published in our Luther League Literature. The following officers were nominated and elected for the. coming year:--President, E. B. Westcott, Hamilton; Vice-President, K. C. Bornhold, Berlin; Recording Secretary, Miss G. C. Kern, Berlin; Corresponding Secretary, Miss L. Vollmer; Treasurer, J. O. Neel), Waterloo; Literature Secretary, C. Sorensen, Waterloo; Trustees, G. Boyer, Hamilton; J. A. Loa, Ottawa, and H. Shennett, Morrisburg. The reports of the auditors and of the corresponding secretary were heard and adopted. Mrs. H. J. Behrens rendered a very pleasing solo after which three addresses on "Loyalty" were heard. Miss L. Vollmer, of Galt, spoke on "Loyalty to the Luther League," Mr. E. B. Westcott spoke on "Loyalty to Missions," and Student Ernie H. Beckman, of Waterloo Seminary, spoke on "Loyalty to the Seminary." These papers were discussed by the convention. The roll of the convention was called, to which each league responded with a short report. The president was given the power to appoint a delegation to the convention of the Canada Jugend Build to be held in the Fall. An invitation from the Toronto Luther League to hold the next convention there was received and accepted. An offering was taken and Rev. Prof. P. A. Laury conducted the closing service. Closing Session. At the evening service, Rev. E. N. Fry, of Sherwood, conducted the opening service. Rev. N. Willison spoke most excellently on "Loyalty to the Bible." Rev. Prof. Laury also spoke in his usual eloquent manner on "Step by Step." Miss G. C. Kern and Mr. Hefford, of Berlin, each sang very pleasing solos at this session. An offering was taken after which the report of the Resolution Committee was heard and adopted item by item, as follows: Be it resolved (1) That a vote of thanks be given to the pastor, president of the Luther League and members of First English Lutheran Church, Berlin, for their cordial and hospitable reception and entertainment of the visiting- delegates to this convention. (2) That a message of congratulation be sent by the secretary to our former vice-president and field missionary, the Rev. M. J. Bieber, on his appointment to the post of eastern district superintendent of the Board of English Home Missions and at the same time to express our regret at his removal from our midst as English Field Missionary. (3) That a vote of thanks be extended to the Rev. Prof. P. A. Laury, M.A., S.T.B., for his most inspiring address this (Continued on page 8.)
