College Activities THE ATHAENEUM SOCIETY The Athaeneum Society is composed of all students in attendance at the College. It is primarily a literary society but it endeavours throughout the year to include all types of students in its programs. Meetings are held every two weeks. The programs include student presentations, parties, lectures, moving pictures, musical recitals and the like. This organization is the largest in the College. The students who direct the affairs of the Society are given an opportunity to develop a working knowledge of parliamentary procedure, as well as practise in self-expression and organization. Due to the variety of entertainment which emanates from the meetings, the Athaeneum Society takes first place among the student extra-curricular activity. THE COLLEGE CORD The College Cord is the publication of the students of Waterloo College. "To draw the interest of men and women to our school, draw students within her walls, draw students and faculty into closer sympathy and draw the hearts of all together in a common love for Waterloo"--for this reason it was named the "Cord"--the tie that binds. The College Cord has an editorial staff and a business organization. It belongs to the students ; it is their vehicle for the expression of their ideas. LE CERCLE FRANCAIS Le Cercle Francais is a society composed of all students taking any French course or who have taken French in the College for two years. All meetings are conducted in French and are planned to give practise and create interest in speaking the language. DIE GERMANIA The Germania is another student organization for those students who have a knowledge of or are studying the German language. The meetings consist of the singing of old German folk-songs, readings, recitations, musical numbers and games. CLASS ORGANIZATION The various classes of Waterloo College : freshman, sophomore, junior and senior--have individual organizations. Class executives are elected to look after finances, class functions and class representations in the student body. Separate class parties are arranged according to the desires of the class members by the class executives, with full permission of the Dean of the College. DRAMATICS There is no dramatic society in the College, but any student interested in dramatics is given an opportunity to test his or her ability in an annual play. Once a year a first-rate play is produced, sponsored by one of the College organizations.
