It should be noted, as a matter of historical and social interest, that there is a reason why this was the last "Miss Canadian University" pageant held at WLU (or anywhere, I believe).

Women at universities across Canada had organized against this antiquated ritual (and the use of university premises both for this sexist display and for the accompanying commercial purposes on campus, such as the exhibiting of prizes, like a car, in the concourse).

Ultimately, a contingent of local students disrupted the event, with the participation of at least two of the contestants who had been elected by their own student bodies as protest candidates (one overt and one covert, as I recall). I was 17, a first year student, and one of the disruptors in the audience. We put paid to this stupid and obnoxious thing.
