with the music at times. Many other people volunteered to sing and play an instrument. It soon became a very popular Saturday night event. Henry Stoneman was the caller for the square dances and always helped anyone who was having difficulty with the call. There were many humorous episodes during these dances but rarely an argument and the police never visited the hall. One night a lady became very angry with her boyfriend and as he kept walking closer to her, she kept backing up toward the lake. The man was aware that she was on the edge of the lake and took another step toward her. She stepped back and fell into the lake. This entertainment did slow down the dance for a few minutes. Very soon the young couple had reconciled and joined in a square dance, wet dress notwithstanding. Many memories of the Trout Lake Dance Hall still linger among older people who tell me it was the popular place to go on a Saturday night for many local and summer residents. Fred paid all the people who had bought shares but he obtained employment in Terrace Bay and the dance hall was closed down several years later. The hall was torn down and it is difficult to-day to see where it was located
