Library at Blind River Is Ready for Book Week

BLIND RIVER — Libraries across Canada are celebrating Nov. 15 to 22 as Young Canada Book Week. Blind River is no exception and special book marks will be passed out to the children when they come in for books during this period.

There are approximately 800 juvenile books available and there is approximately 140 books in French for the younger children.

Some of the teachers have started taking entire classes to the library during the library period on Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. A number of children, especially those who travel by bus, have not had the opportunity of using the library and this has been a means of bringing a whole new world directly to them.

BOOKS VARIED

Librarian Mrs. Frank Longford suggested that if other teachers would also like to bring their classes over, this could be arranged.

There is a new series of books in the library, "Whitman Learn About Books" that are very popular as well as the Burrough's books on science fiction.

The girls are quite interested in the Montgomery books of fiction. A very good set of classics are available, but not too often taken out.

The "Blaze" series are very popular with both boys and girls as everyone seems to love stories about horses.

The pre - schoolers have a good selection of the Golden Books.

Mrs. Longford recently attended a library meeting held at Laurentian University in Sudbury, where a very interesting address was given by William A. Roedde, director of the provincial library service of Ontario, on The Impact of Recent Legislation on Library Services.

It is hoped that in the near future a better reference section can be set up in Blind River and so Mrs. Longford, when in Sudbury, joined the study - group on future reference centres.

Library hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 3.30 to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. Special hours are arranged for school classroom visitations.

There is no charge for taking books from the library as this is a service provided by the town.
