Description
An aerial view of Jackfish coal terminal located outside of Terrace Bay, Ontario. During, the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries a heavy traffic of French and later English fur traders, past through the local area on the way to numerous outposts and stations in the west, east,, and north. In addition to the numerous trappers and traders shacks that gradually, appeared on the waterways throughout the region, major trade posts existed for various, lengths of time at the Pic and Pays Plat Rivers near Rossport, Jackfish and on the north end of Long Lake.The early railway and big lake freighters also carried supplies to and from Jackfish and the developing communities and inlets surrounding Terrace Bay.
