The cup had been taken off the coach for a visit to St. Martin School. A travelling version of Cana- da's Hockey Hall of Fame, fea- turing the authentic Stanley Cup, visited Terrace Bay March 24. The National Hockey Leg- ends on Ice Tour was on dis- play at Radisson Avenue in front of the Fire hall. The cup itself also made a trip to St. Martin School. Housed in two Greyhound coaches, the NHL Legends On Ice is touring Ontario and Man- itoba from Jan. 23 until mid- May, on the second half of it's two-year cross-Canada tour. "Darryl Sittler and Johnny Bauer put the cup right on the coach," said Tour Coordinator Wayne Bileck while in Terrace - Bay last week. The buses house memorabil- ia--including the Canada Cup--that chronicles the histo- ry of the game and represents many of the sport's legendary names. "We're trying to bring hock- ey history to the people of Canada," said Bileck. One Greyhound coach serves as a travelling theatre and fea- tures a video produced specifi- cally for the tour, highlighting many moments form the game of hockey. The other coach has been specially designed to accommodate more than 35 items from the Hockey Hall of Fame. Visitors were able to see dis- plays from more than a century of hockey history, as well as displays featuring artifacts from different periods of the game's history. They include the Early Days, containing skates from the 1800s; the New Era and the Formation of the NHL, with Cyclone Taylor's stick; the Golden Age, featuring equip- ment that belonged to Gordie Howe, Bobby Hull and Jacques Plante; the Expansion Years, with items that belong to Bobby Orr and Bobby Clarke; and the 1980s, containing Wayne Gretzky's Oilers jersey and Brett Hull's Blues jersey. This was the question posed to students at Schreiber Public School and Holy Angels School in a contest held earlier this month. A part of the eighth annual Freedom to Read Week, held Feb. 24 to March 2, students in Junior Kindergarten to grade 3 were asked to draw a pic- ture of themselves reading, while the older students were asked to write essays on what it would be like if they couldn't read.
