"The Monarchs", home town heroes of Mushaboom, Nova Scotia, are together again 15 years after breaking up, to play a reunion concert. But, Nostalgia gives way to terror as they face the prospect of total humiliation - Why destroy their perfect memo- ries with the awful reality of the present. The story traces the progress of a generation from -hard rockin' teens to the responsi- bility-laden adults they have become. Mr. Gray drew from personal experience when he wrote Rock and Roll. CARROTS AND CAULIFLOWER WITH CHEESE SAUCE '6 medium carrots, peeled and quartered lengthwise 1 medium cauliflower, broken into florets 1 Tablespoon butter or mar- garine 1 Tablespoon flour 'teaspoon salt °/s teaspoon dry mustard 1 cup milk 6 ounces sharp cheese, grated Fresh parsley (for garnish) Arrange carrots (cut in half if neces- Truro, Nova Scotia, Gray found- ed his own band "The Lincolns", which toured the province for 7 years. APPLE CRISP 5 cups apples, peeled, cored and sliced 2 Tablespoons lemon juice %, cup uncooked oatmeal 7/3 cup sugar %, teaspoon salt 1 _ teaspoon nutmeg 2 teaspoons cinnamon 4%, cup shortening 1 cup heavy cream, whipped (for topping) Place apples and lemon juice in a large glass mixing bowl. Stir to coat apples well with lemon juice. Pour coated apples into a well-greased Pyrex 9'/2-inch Flavor-Saver pie plate. In the mixing bowl, combine remain- ing ingredients except cream, mix thor- oughly and spread over the top of the apples. Press down with a spatula. Bake about 50 minutes at 350°.
