Pet Talk A puppy brings much responsibility By Alice Scott This week the topic is Puppy Care. But before I start I would like to tell you about the tragic death of a puppy. This puppy was only three months old. The owner did not seem concerned about the fate of his injured puppy and refused to take him to Thunder Bay where a Vet could have possibly have saved his life. The puppy was hit by a truck. - It was brought to me by two com- passionate bystanders and the driver of the truck. Unfortunately, his injuries were to severe and he had to be put down. Our local doctors are not expe- rienced with the animals and even though they have the compassion they do not have the equipment to deal with these emergencies. This puppy's death could have been prevented. People think it is cruel to tie up or pen a puppy, but I think it is even more cruel to let a puppy die needlessly and in such severe pain. Please keep your dogs tied up or in a dog run. If you decide to buy a puppy, you must remember you have taken full responsibility for his care and welfare. Your first concern should be to take your puppy to a veterinarian so that he can receive an exami- nation and any vaccinations . required for his age. There are a few items you should obtain before you get your puppy. 1.- a stainless steel bowl.
