"When I opened the door at 7:00, I had to run back to get into position," said co-chairman Jack Handel. Every year tables laden with preserves, books, plants, house- hold wares, clothing, knitting, baking, and assorted knick- knacks are open to the public. Jack Handel, who co-chairs the event with Myrtle Gordon, mentioned that each year the planning occurs about six months prior to the event with the help of a large Fall Fair committee. "There is a lot of enthusiasm. It's wall to wall people every year," said Handel of the large crowds. Draws were won by: Holly Smith- ham; Susan Mitchell- gro- cery hamper; Arlene Hamel- crystal; Mrs. Schoales- afghan; and Clara Wheeler- quilt. A penny auction was held to sell off whatever was left on the tables on Saturday evening. A busload of seniors from Thunder Bay attended the fair and enjoyed the supper before returning home. The money raised from the Fall Fair is all given to St. Andrew's Church. "Money from the two-day pro- gram goes back into the church for repairs. There's always a lot of maintenance to be done to a church." 500,000 safe hours at KC Kimberly-Clark Canada Inc. employees who, on July 19, 1990, accu- mulated 500,000 safe hours without a lost-time incident were recently recognized for their achievement with an award from the Ontario Pulp and Paper Makers' Association (OPPMSA). of Terrace Bay PROCLAMATION WHEREAS the safety of buildings we occupy in our everyday lives is essential to the well-being of the citizens of the Township of Terrace Bay, Ontario; and WHEREAS among our by-laws and regulations are those which provide standards for safe con- struction in the home and workplace; and WHEREAS for building and related construction codes to be effective, understanding and coop- eration must exist between building officials and the people they serve - building occupants and all sectors of the construction industry; and WHEREAS the contributions made to health, safety and welfare of our built environment by dedicated professional building officials may not be fully realized by the public at large; and WHEREAS the province and local governments across Ontario - along with such prestigious organizations as the Ontario Building Officials Association are joining to promote a better under- standing of building regulations; and WHEREAS the theme of Building Regulations Awareness Week has been designated as "Build Safe - Build Smart"; NOW THEREFORE, | Jim Ziegler, Reeve of the Township of Terrrace Bay do hereby proclaim September 23 -29, 1990 as BUILDING REGULATIONS AWARENESS WEEK in the Township of Terrace Bay and urge all citizens to recognize the importance of the Ontario Building Code and vital contributions rendered by the dedicated individuals who administer it in the Township of Terrace Bay and elsewhere.
