Yes, but the answer is not black and white. 'The following is from Section 55(2) and (3) of the Highway Traffic Act. (2) Color coating: obstructing ~ view prohibited. No person shall drive a motor vchicle upon a highway where the surface of the windshield or of any window of the vehicle has been coated with any color spray or other color coating in such a manner as to obstruct the driver's view of the highway or any intcrsecting high- way. (3) Color coating obscuring interior. No person shall drive on a highway a motor vehicle on which the surface of the wind- shield or of any window to the direct left or right of the driver's scat has been coated with any col- ored spray or other colored or reflective material that substan- ~ tially obscures the interior of the motor vehicle when vicwed from outside the motor vehicle. Police must be able to see clearly into the interior of the vehicle at any time during day and night. The main windows of concern are the windshield and the driver's window and front passenger window. Police have noticed an increase in the usc of tinted win- dows. It is necessary for the safe- ty of all vehicles on the roadway that these heavily tintcd windows be cleaned. Therefore, any vehicle stopped for tinted windows will first be warned. If stopped again the driv- er will be charged and the tint will be removed before the vehi- cle is driven away. Do you know how to reduce the risk of getting AIDS? Practise safer sex. Get the facts.
