She added the centre should be used as a last resort loan office for business and is not intended to compete with banks or other financial institutions. The centre can be used to assist small business owners in finding other lending institutions and will also help people with the application process. As of October 15, the Business Development Centre has issued a total of $58,000 in loans to four small businesses. As a result, 14 full-time jobs and 16 part-time jobs were created and one full- time job and one part-time job were maintained. . Presently there are loans pend- ing which, if approved, will boost the total investment in local small Grant allows BDC to fully serve area business to exceed the initial $100,000 investment fund - thus the reason for the additional $150,000 in funding from the ministry. : The BDC is also responsible for the administration of the Sclf- Employment Incentive, another option available through the Community Futures Program. Under this option, persons who are receiving social assistance or Unemployment Insurance bene- fits may be eligible for a weekly allowance of $180 for a maxi- mum of 52 weeks while they are establishing their new small busi- ness. To date, three individuals from the Schreibcr-Terrace Bay area have been approved for the Self- Employment Incentive. In addition to financial assis- tance, the BDC provides consult- ing services. During the first nine months «! operation, the centre served a total of 92 clients and was successful in helping 27 of these entrepreneurs in: obtaining financial assistance from other institutions. YEAR OF THE COACH LVANNEE DE L'ENTRAINEUR -1989- Obituary KNAUFF: Evelyn Veronica Knauff formerly of Terrace Bay, Ontario, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, Alberta on October 9, 1989 at the age of 70 years. Evelyn is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Cliff and Lois Knauff of Kamloops, B.C.; one daughter Kit Knauff of Calgary; one step-daughter Bettylou Hahn of Cadilac, Michigan; three grandchildren, Stephen Knauff, Michael Knauff, Vallie Ginn and two great grandchildren. Evelyn is also survived by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Tim and Helen Dodd, Ray and Doris Dodd, Doug and Shirley Dodd and her aunt Evelyn, all of Thunder Bay, Ontario; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Clifford in 1971. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Martin's Catholic Church, Terrace Bay, Ontario on Monday, October 16, 1989 at 1:00 P.M. with The Rev. B.
