By Dave Chmara Schreiber receives first sewage payment Schreiber has received its first payment, in the amount of $169,600 for a sewage works pro- ject. The announcement came from Minister of the Environment, Jim Bradley, earlier this month. The payment will go towards architectural, engineering and contract costs incurred to date. Aurel Gauthier, Schreiber's clerk-treasurer, said the town is hoping construction of the new settling tank will begin next sum- mer. The total cost of the sewage treatment plant expansion is esti- mated at $1,672,000. The province will contribute over $1.3 million towards the cost of the expansion. Gauthier said the project will see the enlarging and moderniza- tion of the existing sewage treat- ment plant. "The plant currently doesn't meet the guidelines set for the operation of a sewage treatment plant," said Gauthier. "The project will bring the plant up to provincial standards and allow for the future expan- sion of the town," Gauthier said. Because of the current limited capacity of the sewage treatment plant, this year's town expansion has been limited to 30 lots in two subdivisions which was equally divided between two companies. Beauty Contest The Home Beautification Contest, organized by the Township of Schreiber, saw the three winners awarded with their prizes at the last council meeting. Taking home first prize of $100 was Coz Commisso. Second place winner was Patrick Halonen bringing in $75. For third place, Harold Shack Jr. won $50. Will North see gas?
