Page 12, Terrace Bay-Schreiber News, Wednesday, August 5, 1987 Terrace Bay Recreation Department News Tot Lot News Tot Lot has completed the first month of the summer program. The attendance has been average and more children are expected in the month of August. Last week the children went on tours to the hospital, police station and the fire station. The children enjoyed all the tours and learned many new things about these important people that assist us when we need their help. The Tot Lot staff would like to thank the people involved for let- ting us tour their job sites. They are: Mrs. Marg Phillips, Mrs. Anna Phillips, and Ms. Jennifer Gatz from the hospital. From the police station we would like to thank Mrs. Brenda Harper, Ms. Julie Kenney and also Mr. Dave Smeltzer; from the fire depart- ment we would like to thank Mr. Ed Stachiw for making the tours fun, interesting and exciting. Pool News The past week at the pool has been a huge success. Our fun week started on Monday with a swim for scuba divers and a float swim. The float swim was greatly- attended by laughing swimmers with their many different dingies and air mattresses. On Tuesday, our first swim was a twin competition with prizes for first and second place. Following twin day was a giant treasure hunt with clues leading the children from the pool, around town and returning to the- pool to find the sunken treasure. Wednesday was a dress up day with a sock hop and a Halloween in July Masquerade. Thursday we had our Mystery Swim consisting of games and obstacle courses. Following the mystery swim were our pool pirates consisting of eight ships and crews. The pirates had a war to see what ship could stay float- ing the longest. Friday the week ended with a bang! Children swam with the fruits of paradise which they all ate. They continued to swim with the coloured icebergs of the Arctic! After a week's worth of fun, everyone will be ready for swim- ming lessons which start on Tuesday, August 4. Swimming lesson times are posted at the pool. August swim schedule is listed elsewhere in this paper- please clip and save. Minor Soccer Program The Terrace Bay Recreation Department would like to offer a Minor Soccer Program for boys and girls between the ages of 5 and 15 years. This program will take place this summer but we need volunteers to assist with coaching and umpiring. This program will run from mid-August to mid-September but without the support of volun- teers, this program will not take place. If you can possibly spare some time to assist with soccer this summer, please contact the Terrace Bay Recreation Department at 825-3542. Tae Kwon Do In the fall, Joe Thippawong, a black belt holder, will be offering a 10-week course in Tae Kwon Do. This course is designed for the beginner and is being offered to persons aged 10 years and older. If at the end of the 10-week course enough interest is shown, a club will be formed.
