Step by step procedures Rossport Community Hall * by ANNE TODESCO The annual meeting of the Community Hall Committee took place Tuesday evening with the Chairman Prina Gerow presiding. Exe- cutive members present were Lorraine Seppala, Prina Gerow, Colleen Taylor, Patricia Camp- bell, Camilla Legault, and Devona Leisander. The minutes were ap- proved as read and sign- ed. The treasurer's re- port showed that funds raised and grants receiv- ved towards the reno- vation of the hall build- ing amounted to appro- ximately $93,000 and ex- penditures amounted to $91,000 leaving a cash balance of $2100. It was announced that financial aid for the com- ing year is given through the Local Ser- vice board organiza- tion. On the agenda for the coming year there is planned the erection of a fence in front of the entrance, a fireproof door on the basement entrance, and the floor given another protect- ive coating. The stored furniture and equipment will be removed to the hall within a few weeks, new chairs are to be purchased and dishes. Mrs. Gerow thanked all who volunteered their help at anytime during the renovation period. She announced that they planned an opening exercise some- time in May or June. The executive com- mittee was returned to office with a new mem- ber to be obtained be- fore the next regular meeting to occupy the seventh position. Wm. Schelling offered con- gratulations to the exe- cutive members for their efforts in the renova- tion. Nelson... continued from page 3 new year. The increasing use by railways of hardwood ties offer hope in this direction. The advent of much heavier rail cars has caused the increase in use of hardwood ties from 20 per cent of the total to 50 per cent. The increase in the miles of railway track in the west as a result of the new Crow Agreement will also help. Pallet pro- duction is gradually im- proving also as other, industries start to in- crease production. Pulp and Paper 1982 was a year of seriously declining pro- duction and earnings for the pulp and paper in- dustry. For Canada pro- duction declined 10 per cent to 18.2 million ton- nes. In January 1983, the Canadian Pulp and Paper Association fore- casted a rise in product- ion of 7 per cent to 19.5 million tonnes which will mean a total operating rate of 83 per cent, still well below a satisfactory level. Canadian share of the U.S. newsprint market declined 2.5 per cent in 1980-82 but C.P.P.A. hopes that the rise in demand in 1983 will cor- rect this problem. = WELCOME...
