CHILD SAFETY WEEK - MAY 1 - 7 The sobering fact that 11,000 adults and 2,000 children die each year in Canada as'a result of injuries sustained in accidents is much quoted. You may say that it is over- exposed and has lost real meaning but be ready for an argument from the surviving loved ones. At the Terrace Bay Police we believe that all accidental deaths can be prevented. Not just some of them - but all of them. Thay may sound idealistic but consider this. Accidents are caused by unsafe acts or unsafe conditions or a combination of both. If the unsafe act is not committed and the unsafe condition is not permitted to exist there will not be an accident. NO ACCIDENT - NO INJURIES If we increase our safety efficiency by 50% there will be a 50% reduction in the number of accidental deaths; increase awareness by 75%, a 75% reduction and by 100% accidents THE NORTH OF SUPERIOR DISTRICT R.C.S.S. Now let's get back to earth. , While it may be theoretically possible to eliminate all accidents the human factors involved will probably always make such a goal unattainable. But, with 50% improvement in efficiency we can save 6,500 lives a year! This should not be an insurmountable task THINK SAFETY!!! A P.C. Murray #3 Terrace Bay Police Force.
