WILSON NEW SUPERVISOR OF SERVICES The regular meeting of the Board of Manage -ment of the District of Thunder Bay Homes for the Aged was held at Birchwood Terrace on Friday, August 27, I976. Mrs. Lillian Morrow, Vice-Chairman handled the meeting for Mr. Alex Daneff, Chairman who was away on holidays. Accounts for Pinewood Court and Birchwood Terrace were approved totalling 5119,870.16. Mrs. Nancy Wilson will be taking over the dut- ies of Supervisor of Services at Birchwood Terrace commencing September 7th. Mrs. Wilson graduated from the Toronto General as a Reg- istered Nurse and has seven years experience in Terrace Bay as well as two years experience working with senior citizens in Montreal. Her family has returned to Schreiber after resid- ing in Kenora. The Board reviewed the use of the whirlpool bath which is being used by residents of the community needing therapy. The Administrator was asked to monitor its use primarily, to see that residents were not being neglectea. The final plans and specifications for the ongoing renovations were reviewed by the Board and, as soon as they have received ministerial approval tenders will be called. A number of applications for residents are being processed for both Homes. Those apply- ing for Birchwood Terrace and residential care are being admitted as soon as they are approv- ed. However, at Pinewood Court there now is a waiting list for extended care beds as well as for residential care beds. The next Board meeting is scheduled to be held at Pinewood Court on" September 24th, I1976. ONTARIO SCHOOL POPULATION DECREASING Declining birth rates will result in Ont- ario's school population decreasing by more than 200,000 in the next ten years. The latest Ministry enrolment projections, released last week by Education Minister, Thomas Wells, indicate that elementary school enrolment will drop by I05,000 during the next ten years. The elementary school popul- ation will drop from the .I,389,478 of last year to a low of I1,253,32I in I98I and rise to I,283,829 in I985. ~ During the 'same period secondary school enrolment will decrease by I06,000, from the I975 total of 605,I60 to a projected 499,I38 in I985. The secondary school enrolment will beak at 6II,I98 next year and then decline. The enrolment decline at the elementary school level will be felt both in the public and separate schools. The projections indi- cate that in the public schools the enrolment will drop by 76,474, from the I975 total of 961,625 to 885,I5I. In the separate schools the enrolment will drop by 29,I75, from the total of 427,853 of last year to 398,678 in I985, Mr. Wells said the projections have been sent to school board officials across the province to assist them in their long range planning. 3
