AUGUST. 2,..1975 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE 3 During the past several years Provincial land planning guidelines have been established to ensure suitable conditions for today's gen- eration as well as those to come after us. All aspects of the natural environment are considered, such as water quality and volume, soil type and depth, present uses of the lakes i.e. day use, fishing, boating, picnicking and existing cabins already on site. This summer we have a traines survey crew collecting field data and preparing lake man- agement plans. When the plans receive final .approval, a survey party will establish Summer Resort Locations on the lakes which are con- sidered suitable for development. We expect to have a number of new lots available next year with subsequent locations being established throughout the following years. MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES LAKE MANAGEMENT PLANNING This summer a planning crew from the Ministry of Natural Resources is surveying several lakes in the Terrace Bay District in order to assess their potential for recreational opp- ortunities. A final plan will be formulated for the future management and development of these lakes. In the Terrace Bay District, the following lakes will be assessed: Santoy Lake Dead Otter Lake Lynne Lake Wabikoba Lake Sox Lake Little Wabikoba Lake Rhea Lake Cedar Lake Whitesand Lake Dotted Lake Little Cedar Lake The public is asked to direct any comments, questions and information concerning the fuiu.} management of these lakes to: District Manager - L.J. Haas Ministry of Natural Resources P.O. Box 280 Terrace Bay, Ontario POT 2WO J.K. Reynolds, Deputy Minister Leo Bernier, Minister. For the first year these lots will be availa- ble to residents of Ontario only. During the following year, all residents of Canada may apply for a lot. At the end of the two year period, non-Canadians may apply for any re- maining lots. Summer resort lots must be accessible by public road. In this District most of the in- ternal road systems are constructed and main- tained by the woods industry i.e. Ontario Pap- er, American Can and Kimberly Clark. These roads are classed as private roads, thus lak- es accessible via these roads cannot be con- sidered for cottage lot development. This fact, combined with the other adverse condit- ions such as precipitous terrain, lack of large inland lakes, and a relative shortage of public access roads makes*it difficult to satisfy the demand for cottage lots from res- idents of the North Shore communities and the Manitouwadge area. We expect that in the foreseeable future, the demand will be greater than the supply, consequently a. public draw system when cott- age lots in new subdivisions are made avail- able may be used.
