FEBRUARY 6, I974 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE I9 SCHREIBER PUBLIC LIBRARY MEETING The Board of Trustees of the Schreiber Public Library held their first regular meet- ing on Tuesday, January 22nd with Mrs. Jac- queline Turner as acting chairman. Mr. Aurel Gauthier was welcomed as a new member - rate- payer's re presentative - replacing Mrs. Inez McCuaig was resigned after I5 years service. The Ontario Library Associations Brief on the Deconditionalization of Public Grants was discussed and the Board being in agreement, an endorsation will be sent to the Minister of Colleges and Universities, and, to the loc -al member of the provincial parliament. It was decided to ask the Northwestern Regional Library System (N.W.R.L.) for a February book exchange by the Bookmobile - a selection of books by members in Thunder Bay when weather conditions are more favor- .able. ~The Board is pleased with the increasing number of local artists who loan their oil paintings for display. The paintings, color- ful and varied in their subjects, are arous- ing increased interest in those changing bookd A telephone will be installed as a step in providing better service. Subscriptions to the National Geographic and the Canadian magazines were renewed. : Confederation College, Thunder Bay, sent two bibliographies on Mental Retardation and Civil Engineering. Books from these will be loaned directly. "Conservation by the People" was ordered from the Regional Conservation Authority. A copy of the I974 Employment Standards was posted on the bulletin board. Accounts totalling $522.32 were approved for payment. The N.W.R.L. System of Thunder Bay has placed two French language sets in the Schre- iber Library. Responsible readers, wishing to learn French in six weeks may borrow a set One set has 40 lessons complete on 4 long- play records and the other set has the same 40 lessons on two cassettes. Two manuals accompany each set. Miss Gwen Hadley, secretary-treasurer, says she is awaiting more audit forms from the Municipal auditors in Thunder Bay. Mrs. D. Kirkpatrick librarian, reported there is still a lengthy list of delinquent borrowers. It was decided to hold elections of offic- ers at the next regular meeting. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Grover have returned to -ing Mr. and Mrs. A. Speziale ~- their daughter Beulah. TERRACE BAY POLICE DEPARTMENT REPORT During the past week the Terrace Bay Police | Department has investigated a total of twenty- one occurrences. : During the snow storm last week, two army helicopters were reported missing, which had been due to land at Terrace Bay fqQr refueling. They were located some times later at Wawa. Two minor accidents were reported during the week. One charge under the Highway Traff- ic Act; two charges under the Liquor Control Act and two domestic complaints were attended. Ten motor vehicles were safety checked with six warnings being issued. These were primarily motorists driving with obscured windows. MINOR HOCKEY TAG BLITZ The Minor Hockey Association will be holding a door-to-door tag blitz on Thurs- day, February 7th from 7-9 p.m. This will A $1.00 tag entitles you to come out all week to all games during Minor Hockey Week. Parents are particularly encouraged to attend.
