In the quarter, the first in the current fiscal year of the bank, IDB auth- orized 86 loans in Northern Ontario for $3,763, C00 as against 63 loans for $2,038,000 in the similar quarter in I972. In the twelve months ended December 31st, IDB approved 333 loans for a total amount of $13,452,000 in Northern Ontario. At December 3Ist, the bank had $37,828,000 outstanding in loans, investments and guarantees to I,046 customers in the region. A subsidiary of the Bank of Canada, IDB provides term financing to smaller businesses in Canada which are unable to obtain financial assistance from other sources on reasonable terms and conditions.
