PAGE I2 TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 30, 1974 WINTER CARNIVAL BUTTONS GO ON SALE THIS WEEKEND Plans for the Terrace Bay 3rd Annual Win- ter Carnival are progressing rather well at this point of time. The next open meeting will be held on Monday. February 4th, at 7:00 p.m. in the Conference Room of the Rec- reation Centre. Winter Carnival buttons will go on public sale this coming weekend at various retail outlets in town. In addition, a door-to-door canvass for Carnival buttons will be complet- ed in the next few weeks. Carnival buttons are .50¢ each and here is one way you can help support the Winter Carnival. Any organizations which will be sponsoring a queen in the Carnival Queen Contest should simply inform Mrs. Ethyl Boyd of the name of the queen as well as the sponsoring organiza- | tion. Rules outlining the Carnival Queen Contest will be published as soon as possible. Remember to give the name of your Carnival queen contestant to Ethyl Boyd. At the January 2Ist Winter Carnival meet- ing, it was announced that snow-machine cross-country and circuit races will be held on Saturday, March 9th. Details of this programme will be announced later. Your contact for this programme is Mr. Ron Dakin and Mrs. Ethyl Boyd. A Winter Carnival adult dance will be held during the Carnival and will be sponsor- ed by the Moose Lodge. "Since it is difficult to outline all of the plans taking place in this year's carniv- al, the Planning Committee will attempt to publish the details of the carnival programme from week to week in the Terrace Bay News. OFFICIAL CHURCH BOARD MEETING St. Andrew's United Church congregation en- 'joyed a bountiful pot luck supper before going on to their official church meeting, when annual reports were presented. Officers of the official Board, Mrs. T.P. Whent, chairman; Mrs. R.G. Macadam, secretary; W.G. Gerow, treasurer and George Gordon, envel=- ope secretary, presented their report -- in brief -- during the period between June I972 and July I973, when the church was without a res- ident minister, Rev. Dr. Peden of Thunder Bay acted as an interim Minister and brought other speakers for various Sundays. In appreciation of his kindness the Board had presented him and Mrs. Peden with an oil painting done by Joan Niemi, local artist. The annual delicatessen in March, and Fall Fair, held in September, again proved most successful fund-raising projects. 01d banquet tables were repaired and new | ones made by Tommy Whent, George Gordon, and Bill Gerow. Regular checks were made on the heating systems in the two residences owned by the church and in the church, repairs made when necessary. Coin card donations for the Easter, Thanks- giving and Christmas services were rewarding and the services well-attended. The response to the sale of The Observer was good. George Riley's offer to keep the back en- trance to the Church plowed was gratefully acknowledged - Jeff McCanna keeps the front door cleared.
