NOVEMBER 25, 1971 TERRACE BAY NEWS PAGE15 MRS. O'CONNOR CELEBRATES 80TH BIRTHDAY Mrs. Eleanor (Nonie) O'Connor marked her 80th birthday surrounded by her family and old friends. She received many lovely gifts, among these a substantial pure from old friends, and relations who called from distant points with good wishes. Mrs. O'Connor came to Schreiber from Rossport as a bride in 1909 and has lived here since, with the exception of a short time when, due to ill.health she was with her daughter (Kay), Mrs. Les Corbett at the Lakehead. She has been active in the Women's Institute since it was organized and for many years the tea hostess. Among those from out of town attending the happy occasion were Mrs. O'Connor's son, Edgar and his wife, of Atikokan; her daughter Ernestine (Mrs. John Hucul); her granddaughter 'Sis' Bond (Mrs. Jeff Perkins), with Steven and Vicky, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lark and Mrs. Annie Minoletti, all of Thunder Bay. A family dinner was enjoyed and friends called at Mrs. O'Connor's home during the afternoon and evening. The purse was presented by Mrs. Joe Campbell and Mrs. Tommy Bolan. TOWN TOPICS The United Church Women have changed the date of their Christmas bazaar-tea from December 4th to December 11th, from 2-5:30 p.m. in the town hall. Bill Randa has gone to spend the winter in Van- couver, visiting first with Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Weaver (Beverley Randa) in Eugene, Oregon. The C .P.R .Employees (Schreiber) Credit Union is holding its annual membership meeting on Nov. 25th, in the town hall. 4 Mrs. Leo Godin and Mrs. M.J., McGrath are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jack Devon in Eganville. A.C. W. TEA Mrs. Flora Bryson and Mrs. Alice Sparkes were co-conveners for the Anglican Church Women's Christmas bazaar held in the town hall on November 17th. Mrs. Iris Lidkea was cashier. Mrs. Ida Krause and Mrs. J.D. Bryson sold tickets of the doll draws, Mrs. Sparkes and Mrs. Eirene Harness were in charge of the bazaar table, Mrs. Brenda Birch was at the white elephant table, Mrs. Ruth Birch at the fishpond, and Mrs. Helen Jartus at the baking table and candy booth. The tea tables were served by Mesdames Mary Patterson, Edith Birch, Colleen Glad, Irma Armstrong Beth Miller, Ruth Collinson and Pat Moore. Mesdames Flora Bryson, Maybelle Furlonger, Bobbie Winters, Jean Tremblay and Marion Eickmeier replenished. Miss Phyllis Wiznuk won the door prize, Mrs. Bill Kinney the Raggedy Andy and Ann Dolls, Mrs. Erie McGrath the Christmas tree centrepiece, and Mrs. Rita McBride (Terrace Bay) the Barbie doll and wardrobe . C.W.L. MEETING Mrs. Bart Kusik; at the November 14th meeting of the Catholic Women's League, announced there are now 155 members. Mrs. Claire Power thanked the members for the goe attendance at the daily Rosary during October. Mrs. Lillian Gagnon, reporting on the meeting of the parish council, stated the annual parish social is planned for January 14. Mrs. Irene Borutski urged members to continue sending letters protesting legal abortion to Project One Hundred Thousand and suggested donations of one per cent of the amount spent on luxury items be donated to the fund for the Development of Peace. Mrs. Rita McGrath, who presided for the meeting, thanked Mrs. Penny Caccamo, convener and the men bers whose work had made the Christmas bazaar such a success.
