PACE 10 IG EDUCATION COST As a member of the teaching profession, | wish to dispute a statement Premier William Davis made to about 5,000 Scarborough elementary and secon- dary teachers at O'Keefe Centre, and reported in The Globe and Mail on February 26th. | contend that education is not expensive. In support of this statement | use the following statistics from the division in which | teach: For the year 1970 our total budget for elementary and secondary schools was about $2,500,000 and total enrolment for the division about 2,370. By simple division, the cost per pupil per year is $1,054.35. There are 200 school days in a year, so again by division, the cost per pupil per day is $5.28.
