February 4, 1971 COUNCIL QUOTES When Terrace Bay Town Council met on Tuesday evening, final readings of By-laws 240 and 241 were given and passed, the first being a by-law to appoint the Fire Chief, Vic Thorpe, and the second the 1971 Road Maintenance Estimates. Accounts passed for payment were Township - $25,925.73; Hydro ~ $1,224.64; and Library ~ $122.29. Correspondence included a letter from Mr. D. Desrosiers requesting that his Island View Service Station might be considered to sarvice either the Hydro truck or the Police Cruiser, since he is no longer a member of council, and can now deal with the Township as a private business man. In a letter from the Chamber of Commerce, they thanked Councillor Jack Caccamo for attending their ' annual meeting ond claryfing police matters perrain- ing to local law enforcement. The Q.A.C.P. Zone 1 will host a meeting for law enforcement officers on February 5tn in the Rainy Lake Hotel, Fort Frances. A Zone Law Enforcement Conference will be attend- ed by the Police Commissioner on May 7 in Marathon. The Grade Seven class of the Public School wrote a letter of thanks to Reeve Cavanaugh for the don- ation from Council, after they had carollied at the annual dinner held in the Hotel. The class was happy to announce they had collected a total of $19.00 which they had turned over to the Retarded Children's Association. Mr. Oswald Fink of the Voyageur Restaurant had asked for a Fire Inspection of the premises. This was complied with and Council also received a copy of the Fire Chiefs' Report. cont'd page 2 SNOWMOBILE RACES SET The Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 223, Terrace Bay will sponsor its third annual snowmobile races on February 6th starting with o cross-country race ar 11 a.m. First prize will go to the winner with no horsepower restrictions, a guaranteed $100. plus a portion ot the entry fee. The 18 norsepower and under winner will receive $50. plus a portion of the entry fee. Third prize will be $25. Track evens, including a race for women only as well as races for women and men, will start at 2pm Trophies for eacn evenr will be donated by Labart's Breweries. Entries will be accepred by Mrs. E. Boyd and Pat Jones ot Terrace Bay. The Masonic Lodge is again donating use of their hall so that the ladies of the Legion may serve hot soup, home baked beans, chili con carne, hot dogs, coffee, hot chocolate, to mothers with children who are unable to go into the Legion Hall and spectators who might be interested in a hor meal . A dance will be held in tne Masonic Hall Saturday night, with live music. LIBRARY NEWS Seven day books have not worked out successtully and will now be circulated on a two week basis.
