i ia Ra iia a NS PAGE 18 TERRACE BAY NEWS WEEKLY REPORT FROM THE SCHRETBER DETACHMENT 0F THE ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE A complaint of theft from the residence of Jack Bryson, 407 Manitoba Street was investigated on Jamiary 25, 1971. The property stolen was recovered and appropriate action is being taken through Provincial Court (Family Division). Suspicious actions of a male subject during the early morning hours of Jaruary 28, 1971 led to an investigation at Schreiber by Constable J.C. Bosley. The subject was found to have been reported missing by authorities in Toledo, Ohio Authorities were notified of the missing person's where- abouts. Patrick Newton, 115 Manitoba Street reported the theft of a gold pocket watch whish occurred sometime between Jan- uary 26, 27, 1971 at his home. The complainant stated the watch, an Illinois Special meke, is of great value to him aa eo keepsake and was taken from the room where is issued licences for the Department of Transport. Constable G.V. Lapworth of the Schreiber Dstachment 1s investigating. Any- one having information regerding this metter is urged to contact Mr. Newton or this office. Any assistance given would be treated confidentially. One motor vehicle collision occurred January 28, 1971 at approximately 11:30 P.M. A 1965 Mercury : ton pickup truck drivén by Mergarete Hartman, Schreiber sustained approxi- mately $150.00 damage when it collided with a 1570 Ford Station Wagon owned and operated by George Riley, Schreiber, on Columbia Street. Damage to the Riley vehicle was esti- mated at $450.00. There were no injuries and investigation is being conducted by Consteble J.C. Bosley and charges are pending. Traffic Statistics for Schreiber Detachment for the year 1970 showed that of the 137 collisions investigated, 1 re- sulted in death and 32 resulted in personal injuries of varying degree. Although the fatality rate was lower than the preceding year (3 deaths in 1969) the total accident ploture shows an approximate Uf increase. January 1971 showed a decrease in accidents of approxi-¥ mately 31% when compared with similar period last year. Please continue to make every effort to brighten the acci- dent picture in 1971. RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING - JANUARY 25, 1971 The Chairman called the meeting to order with the fol- lowing members present: - F. Bryson, R. Spadoni, E. Prinse- lear, W. Malcolm, W. Campbell, G. The Sea Cadets have' been using the room for their meetings and still hope to procure some locker space for their equipment. W. Campbell will look ve into this. : 3 G. Blanchette reported on the Manitouwadge Conference Lo reading from correspondence which summarized the conference and which also gave suggestions for the Spring Zone Con- ference which will be hosted in Schreiber. § - E. Prinselaar and G. Blanchette will co-chair the Spring = Conference and will have tentative outlines for a program at = the next meeting. \ NEW BUSINESS ¥ Chairman of the Rink Committee, W. Campbell, asked if there were any complaints or suggestions from the Recreation Com- mittee regarding the Arena. It was suggested that the purchase of a new intercom sys- - tem should be considered as the present one is obsolete. It should alse be kept in mind for a summer project that the washroom situation be improved and modernized. The cost of the lighting, particularly in summer months, was discussed and our Committee should bear in mind the necessity of out- ting down or offsetting this extensive expense. Other minor repairs and improvements in the Arena were discussed. ~The same Travelling Players Group as performed in Sch- reiber last year will be putting on an afternoon and evening performance this year. The two School Boards are paying 1/3 1 of the cost each and our Committee has been asksd to pay the other 1/3, at the same time charging admission for the Th evening performance of "Room 110" which will help offset out cost. W. Campbell moved we assist the School Boards in pre- senting this Group. Sec: F. Bryson. E. Prinselaar voluntesred to take care of the Publicity for this play. B. Harper and F, Bryson will take tickets. Date - Friday, February 12th. Time will be 8:00 p.m.; prices- $1.00 - adults and 50¢ for High School Students. The possibility of seouring the Al Oeming Film "Wild Splendor" to be shown in Schreiber was discussed. G. Blan- chette and W., Campbell will attempt to get in contact with the responsible persons and see if arrangements could be mede, even at a later date. The 1971 Budget will hawe to be submitted to Council for approval shortly and so a Special meeting to discuss and prepare the budget will be held on February 16. ! G.- Blanchette reported on the work the Kinsmen of Schrei- ber have been doing to assist the Curling Club this year, financially and also on a menaging basis. F. Bryson moved the meeting be adjourned after which a general discussion on recreational problems wes held. EE EN --_--__$e ee CONGREGATIONAL MEETING HELD BY ST. ANDREW'S A very successful congregational meeting was held on Jan- uary 31st with more than €5 people attending the potluck supper which preceeded the meeting. While the members of the congregation settled down for some serious business, a group of children was entertained i the sanctuary with a number of excellent films. The Rev, E. Prinselaar opened the meeting with prayer and = spoke a word of welcome to those gathered to discuss the business of the church. Following the appointment of the secretary for the eveni Mrs. D. Lengyel, the report of the Board was presented by its chairman, Mr, Cy Pyke. g Although the church is experiencing serious difficulties ; ot in terms of a decline in organizational activities and mem- : bership, some very hopeful signs can be detected.
