On Monday, January 25th, the local secondary school hosted a seminar for teachers of the occupational FEBRUARY 12th., programme. t 8 Mr. W.F. Colborne, the Occupational Consultant from the a p-m. Department of Education, presented a paper concerning the recognition of the occupation student. He pointed out that students with learning handicaps such as difficulties with reading and grammer often lose interest in their work. Stressing the need for teachers to provide a stimulation in their subject for the individual student, Mr. Colborne went on to state that students must learn to cope with situations they will be faced with later. Following a discussion period, the audience was divided into smaller groups to consider approaches with specific subjects. Mr. R. French, guidance counsellor, Gron Morgan School in Thunder Bay, acted as chairmen for the section dealing with Social Sciences while Mrs. M., Averill presented sevaral views on remedial and sreative writing. The latter part of the day was spent in a class room environment simulating teaching techniques. This was to allow an apportunity for teachers to assess the techniques and suggestions offered by their colleagues.
