HOPPER RETIREMENT Mr. Robert Verne Hopper retired from employment with the Kimberly Clark Pulp and Paper Company Limited, Terrace Bay on January 31, 1971. Mr. Hopper was employed as Diesel Engineer Operator with this firm since start-up of operations in 1948. Prior to his employment with the Terrace Bay mill, Verne worked at Red Rock, Ontario. Verne was born in Chapleau, Ontario = January 31 1906. He is married and has five children. He and his wife Lois Jean are very active in this North Shore Community of Terrace Bay. He enjoys skiing, bowl-= ing and sports bringing him into association with the people. Verne is Past Master of Lodge #662 A.F.A. M. -C.R.C., he is a charter member of the Terrace Bay Community Credit Union and has served as an officer since the inception of the Credit Union in 1949 and he presently is the Treasurer. Verne has been a member of the International Broth erhood of Pulp, Sulphite and Paper Mill Warkers Union since 1945, after his discharge from the Royal Canadian Air Force. He also is a member of the Royal Canadian Legion #223 and the Loyal Order ot Moose Lodge #1752. The Executive and membership of this local union congratulate Verne upon his retirement and hope he will elect to remain within our community. . RETARDED ASSOC. PLAN POINT PROGRAM 19/1 The Schreiber-Terrace Bay Association for the Men- tally Retarded held their annual meeting on January 28th in St. Martin's Churcn Hall . President, Mrs. M. Helmink presided. The annual report had been previously printed and was handed to the members, to pursue at their leisure. The meeting opened with a Prayer for the mentally Retarded. continued next column ...... In ner opening remarks, Mrs. Helmink outlined the Three Point Program planned tor 1971 - Projgcr - "Education 71". She stated that a public education program is designed ro educate people on Menral Retardation in Canada, using talks and films, with discussion periods following. Books on retardation will be donated to Public Libraries and if permissable to schools in the district. 2 - An in-depth study is to be made regarding the need of a Sheltered Work Shop with a Community Residency in this area - If it proves necessary that this service pe implemented, a Building Fund will be established, to provide the workshop, perhaps in the next five years. 3. = Home Care Programs will also be one of their aims. Mrs. Helmink ended her remarks by saying that without the interest of the public, nothing can be accomplished. Miss Muriel Holmes, nominations convener, gave her report. Elections were held with the following results = President - Mrs. M. Helmink; 1st vice-president - Mr. R. Sinotte; 2nd vice president = Miss M. Holmes Treasurer = Mrs. Al Allan. Corresponding Secretary = Mrs. M. Santerre. The Recording Secretary will be chosen by the executive A film, "Introducing the Mentally Retarded" was shown, followed by a discussion period.
