Reeve Cavanaugh was present to install the 1971 President- R. Sinotte, and Vice-President = D. Rafalant. The eight directors will be: L. Boudreau, R. Bray, D. Beno, H. Lohr, A. Chisholm, Mrs. E. Connors, oO. Fink and T. Savitsky. Councillor J. Caccamo in his capacity as Police Commissioner, attended on request and answered many questions concerning local law enforcement to the satisfaction of the members. 1970 was reviewed in general and although attend- ance was small at several meetings, the following results were noted: The parents of Terrace Bay's New Year baby were honoured with a dinner at which various gifts and donations were presented from the members and other business establishments as well as a suitable engraved cup from the Chamber of Commerce. We expect to honour 1971's New Year Baby in similar fashion. The local Boy Scout Association was approached early in the summer and several of their Venturers were recruited to do some brush and repair work at the Aguasabon Gorge. Rustic steps and railings were put in some of the more hazardous spots, making a decided improvement. ! A very satisfactory and worthwhile 'Town Hall Night" sponsored by the Chamber, took place on December Ist. Better weather conditions would have improved the attendance at this event. Early in the year, three members of the Department of Highways from Thunder Bay attended one of our meetings and later conducted surveys on pedestrian traffic on Highway 17. The end result was the hiring by Town Council of crossing guards and the infro= duction of a traffic safety program in the schools which is now taking place. Individual requests for tourist inf ormation were answered as received and brochures were sent out to various locations in Canada and the United States. We hope to make 1971 another good year.
