Dettbarn and Mr. N. Kripalani from Marathon, visited Schreiber High School . They are shown in the photo below with Mr. B. C. Left to right: GUEST SPEAKERS AT SCHREIBER HIGH SCHOOL A new course "Man in Society" was introduced at Schreiber High School this year. There are two classes, and an aim of the course is to deal with present day social issues. As part of their instruct- ion, the students choose a subject of interest and endeavour to bring in resource people in the field. To date, several interesting and informative seminars have been held. On Friday, December 4th, Mr. Keith Penner discussed "The Federal Government's fight against Water. Pollution." x On Tuesday, January 12th, Mrs. Grasby outlined the role of the Children' Aid, and the battered child syndrome. continued on next column....... On Tuesday, January 19th, Mr. Jack Stokes, M.P.P.} Thunder Bay, appeared to speak on "Air Pollution." © The class found Mr. Stokes' speech very informative. On Thursday, January 2Ist, Mr. Slater and M. LeBlanc spoke to the senior Man in Society class on the subject of alcoholism. The students found their talk both thought provoking and entertaining . On Friday, January 22nd, the junior Man in Society class was given a very comprehensive explan= ation of pollution abatement being undertaken in Terrace Bay, by the project manager for Kimberly- Clark, Mr. Stevens. SCHREIBER "KIN" CORNER On Monday, January I8th, the regular meeting of the Kinsmen Club of Schreiber was held in the meeting room of the Schreiber Municipal Building. It was decided by the membership to make a don- ation of $1620.96 to the Schreiber Curling Club. This money is to be used for a mortgage payment. In | Addition to financial aid four of the Kinsmen are assisting by serving on the executive of the local Curling Club. Again this year, the Kinsmen Club of Schreiber will donate $500.00 to the Schreiber Artificial Ice Fund. These resources will be used to help amortize © the amount owing on the artificial ice plant in the © Schreiber Community Centre. The draw for the side of beef with take place at 4.00 p.m. on Saturday, January 30th at Caccamo's Grocery Store in Schreiber. Anyone wishing fo purchase additional tickets should contact any mem- ber of the Kinsmen Club. A contribution of $100.00 from the Schreiber Kin- ettes was gratefully received. This money will be used in Kinsmen service work in the area. It was decided that the annual Schreiber Kin spiel will be held at the Schreiber Curling Arena on Saturday, Febuary 20th. After the meeting adjourned, a social hour was held at the home of Kin Ray Cook. STORK CLUB Born to Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gerow of Rossport, a boy on January 21st, 1971.
