PAGE 18 Schreiber - cont'd There will be a shower tea in honor of Janet Clemens bride-elect of October in the United Church hall on September from 8 to 10 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. D. Bennitz are in the east where they attended the wedding of their daughter Carol, to Terry L. Douglas in the Christian Baptist Church in Newmarket, Ontario on September 21st. The public school held a meet-the-teachers night this week with a large attendance of parents from both Schreiber and Rossport, the latter having chil- dren in grades 7 and 8. Servitors for the tea were Betty Pinion, Linda Lidkea, Vickie Smith and Carol Carolyn Fadden. Mrs. W. Holland has left for Fredericton, N.B. to attend a family re-union when there will be two sisters.and one brother from that area and three will' be coming from Maine. Mr. and Mrs. B. McCabe of Timmins were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. C. Pearson this week. Mrs. McCabe is the former Ada Kimball and lived here as a girl. Mrs. Alice Potvin is visiting in Geraldton with her sister, Mrs. Vivien Axelson. Mrs. J. Maclsaac and Colleen were in Fort William Saturday, September 14th for the Snyder- Millman wedding, when Colleen was bridesmaid. Miss Diane Morrison, bride-elect of this month, was honored at a shower party arranged by Mrs. P. Mulligan and Mrs. P. Cebrario in the latter's hone. Diane, on entering the room, was presented with a bouquet designed by Mrs. A. LeBlanc and the many lovely gifts were presented by Mrs. G. Speck. As each gift was opened, the ribbons and bows were made into a dainty and novel hat by Mrs. Mulligan as a souvenir of the occasion for Diane. Miss Lois LeBlanc assisted the hostesses in serving a cold plate lunch. Anne Noonan, who spent the summer working in Toronto, has enrolled in Lakehead University. C.W.L. Entries may be in black ang' white or color, and prizes are, $200, $100 and $50. Date for the Christmas bazaar was set for Wednesday, Nov. 13. A donation was made to the building fund. Following the meeting H. J McParland gave a talk on amal- gamation of the school boards. é : -- The Catholic Womens' League met - recently with Mrs. Bill Stefurak in the chair. Very. Rev. Dean Cano gave the opening prayer and Mrs. D'Arcy McGuire the scrip- ture . reading. Mrs. G. W. Banning, spiritual convener, informed members the Rosary will be said every day at 2 p.m., during the month of October; followed by a discus- sion and coffee. Education convener, Mrs. E. H. Morrow, said new books have been received in the library for both adults and children. She asked members to continue sav- ing stamps for missions, and to save labels. A new convener is needed for this project. The CWL cook book will soon be ready for sale. Dean Cano told members a march for, millions for social welfare is being planned for Lunch was served. The Regional Bookmobile was here on September 20th with a display of the latest books. A trial pur- chase of three books each was made by the Public Library Board members to see if the co-op offer to cover, pocket, and ticket each book , for a cost of 25¢ is practical. They also checked books on display with lists of titles presently on request from readers. SCHREIBER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY SUDDENLY. The funeral of the late Mrs. Barclay McCuaig, nee Minnie Georgina Smith, whose death occurred sud- denly in Fort William on September 18th was conduct ed in St. Andrew's United Church on September 20th by Rev. E.C. Prinselaar. Wendy Weaver was the organist and hymns chosen were Praise to the Lord Almighty and Oh God Our Help in Ages Past. Honorary pallbearers were H.P. Bourguignon, J.R. Weaver, Tom Bolan, Tom Whitton David McLellan and Frank Walker of Manitouwadge . Active pallbearers were Leonard Huard, Hobden Spikula, Jerry Fisher, George Burns, Pat Bolan and Emmett Holland. Interment was in Schreiber ceme- tery. The Lady Train men, M.K. Fifth-Chapter of which Mrs. McCuaig was a charter member, held it's bur- ial rites in the Gawley Funeral Home. Mrs. McCuaig's immediate survivors are her hus- band, five daughters - Sandy (Mrs. P. Bourguignon) Doris (Mrs. P. Gauthier); Betty (Mrs. A. Huard); Myrna, at home and Audrey (Mrs. M. Morgan), all of Schreiber; two sons, tom and Jim of Fort William; 19 grandchildren, a sister Florence (Mrs. L. Payette) of Fort William and father George Smith of Schreiber Mrs. McCuaig was born in Schreiber and would have been 55 on September 20th, the day of her fun- eral. She and Mr. McCuaig were married in 1930. Although her first interest was her home and family Mrs. McCuaig was an active curler and an ardent fisherman. During the 11 years she and her husband operated the C.P.R. station restaurant, they became known not only by the train crews, but many of the travellers, and it was (Cont'd on page 16) ) lilt itis namie a at
