JANUARY 18, 1968 FIGURE SKATING NEWS At the conclusion of the first half of the figure skating year, twenty one skaters of the Terrace Bay Figure Skating Club have passed a total of 96 Nation al Skating Tests, earning their colorful crests. These tests are held at regular intervals as the skater bec- comes proficient. Our Professional, Mrs. Jennifer Skinner, triple gold medalist, is working hard with the Seniors pre- paring them for the C.F .S.A. Tests. This year we have skaters working on figure tests from Preliminary to Sixth Figure test, Dance Tests from Preliminary to Senior Silver and Gold, and Bronze and Silver Free- skating Tests. These tests will be held at the end of the skating season. Plans are being formulated for our Carnival to be held in March or early April. The second half of our season starts on January 23rd, and any one wishing to join the club at this time may do so at the Arena, or by phoning Mrs. L. Dejonghe The fee for the balance of the season is $7.50, and this includes Group Lessons. Courtemanche Lapidary Meeting - There will be a meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. D. Thompson, 418 Elizabeth next Tuesday, January 23rd, at 7.30 p.m., for the purpose of forming a Lapidary Club executive. Any- one interested in attending is most welcome. Tap and Ballet Dance Classes (for new starters) Classes will be held Tuesdays from 6.30 to 7.15 p. in meeting room no. 1 of the Recreation Centre. An advance fee of $2.00 will cover 4 sessions at 50¢ per week. Instructress is Mrs. D. Kirkup. Learn to skate Programme - This course is for both boys and girls. It is designed to teach the basic moves of skating which are required for hockey, fig- ure, speed and pleasure skating. The course is 6 weeks in length, starting January 24th to February 28th, on Wednesdays, at 4p.m. in the Centre Arena An advance registration fee of $1.50 will be charged and crests will be awarded to all persons who complete the course. Instruction will include basic moves which will assist person's in hockey, figure, speed and pleasure skating. This is a 6 week course, starting January 24th and running until February 28th, and will be held Wednesdays at 4 p.m. in the Terrace Bay Arena. Adult Art Course - Teenage boys and girls will be accepted as well as adults. The course starts this Thursday, January 18th, in the Art Room (Meeting Room No. 3) at 8 p.m. Registrations will also be accepted at that time and place. The first session will deal with the fundamentals of art, drawing, and design, using charcoal and paper and possibly conte crayon. The registration fee is $5.00 to cover the entire 10 week course, payable in advance.
