Mrs. Walter Gerow is home from Terrace Bay Hos- pital with her infant son. Mr. and Mrs. E. Gerow and family holidayed wit friends at MacDiarmid Forestry Base. Sten Lif of Red Lake spent the holiday season with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Herb Lif. Guests with the C .W. Todescos over the Christmas weekend were Mr. and Mrs. J.R. Douglas of Beard- more, Miss Laurie Douglas of Toronto, Mr. and Mrs. M. Todesco, Rachel and Camillo of Port Arthur and Miss Agnes Todesco of London, Ontario. Mr. and Mrs. W. Hubelit and Alfred Ray were holiday visitors to Nipigon. ROSSPORT SCHOOL CONCERT Parents and friends attended the annual Christmas Concert presented by the teacher, Mrs. M. Matchet -and her pupils in the School Community Hall. The dialogue, "Junior's Christmas Dime" was thirty min- utes of pleasant entertainment. The program opened with the singing of "O Canada", and Christmas Carols. Wayne Spencer, Maxine 'Hubelit, Agnes Mushqush, Brenda Spencer, Patsey Gerow and the Spencer family, sang several songs. The junior grades presented an action song, and the intermed- iate pupils gave a Choral Reading. Leona Goodchild gave the opening and closing recitations. Other recitations were given by Cathy Gerow, Albert Ray, Alice Bouchard and Brenda Spencer. Chairman for the entertainment was Eugene Gerow. Santa arrived to distribute treats and gifts. Eugene Legault was elected to the school board of trustees to serve for one year, and Mrs. Joyce Yan- don was elected for a three year term at the annual ratepayers meeting held Wednesday evening in the School. Trustees on the board as well as the above mentioned are Mrs. A. Todesco. Secretary Treasur- er for the past term was Mrs. K. Paulmert and this position will be finalized at the first Board meeting in January. Ratepayers heard the minutes of the last annual meetings, school board's and secretary's reports. A discussion was held regarding dogs running at large on private property and making a regular nuisance TERRACE BAY NEWS JANUARY 4, 1968 of themselves. It was decided to ask the proper au- thorities for information on the problem since this is an unorganized township. The ratepayers present dis- cussed the possibility of this school being closed' and all present were against such a move. It was noted that a district assessor has been appointed to assume his duties on January Ist, 1968, and that the Depart- ment of Municipal Affairs will assume all costs of ma ing the assessment. How this will affect the assessm- ent in the village is not presently known. Transport- ation for high school pupils to Schreiber was question ed but they had no information on this subject at pre- sent. It was noted that one student is being re-imbur sed for room and board at a Lakehead Technical School this term on a trial bases. A percentage of this expenditure is returned to the board and the bal- ance absorbed by the ratepayers. This assistance is at an experimental stage and if the board finds it too much of a strain on the budget it might be discontinu ed. Doug Hunt presided nominations with Mrs. Tom | Yandon acting secretary. Mrs. Todesco thanked all who turned out to make the meeting a success and ex tended the compliments of the Seasor.. Mr. and Mrs. D. Bennitz had their daughter Carol and her fiancee, Terry Douglas with them at Xmas. SCHREIBER RESIDENT PROMOTED D.L. Condie of Schreiber has been promoted to the position of Assistant Superintendent with the CPR at Sudbury, taking over his new duties January 1, 1968. Mr. Condie entered the service of the CPR at Schreiber in 1946, starting as trainman and later tran sferring to Yard service. The last several years he has been relieving yardmaster at Schreiber.
