Approximately 70 teachers attended, coming from Manitouwadge, Schreiber, Nipigon, Red Rock, and the host school, Terrace Bay. Coffee and doughnuts, compliments of the Terrace Bay High School Board, preceded registration at 2:30 The teachers then dispersed to various subject seminars, including Mathematics, Science, Geography, English, History, Commercial, Physical Education, Technical and Principals. At four o'clock, Mr. W. Gibben, of Kenora, who is the Educational T.V. Co-ordinator for the Depart- ment of Education, was introduced. He spoke on the benefits to be derived from Educational T.V. He also stated that an E.T.V. Station will open in Toronto in September 1968, and by 1972, there will be 34 stations operating in Ontario, one being in the Lake- head to serve the North Shore. Mr. Gibben answered the question "Why use E.T.V.?" by saying that T.V. is a versatile aid to teachers, covering different sub- ject areas in different ways. T.V. brings in apparatus too expensive to be used in most schools, and can be shown in slow motion, which would help to explain various areas. This type of T.V. is not a substitute for good teachers, it is not entertainment, but an accepted way of life-E.T.V. provides enrichment essential. to aid teachers in their work. Using a video tape recorder he demonstrated what kind of programs would be available to E.T.V. school rooms. A Social Hour followed at the Curling Club Lounge before the assembly met for dinner at the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel. The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Jack Stokes, M.P.P. for the Thunder Bay Riding, who spoke on the new Robarts legislation, which will reduce the number of local school boards from 1600 to 100.
