Andras, Liberal M.P. for Port Arthur reads in part - It is paredoxical that in the midst of celebrations of our Gentenniel Yeer, Canadians are facing grave questions affecting national unity - the answers to which will deter- mine our ability to survive as a united Canada. There are 4 several divisive factors: federal provincial jurisdictional problems, regionalism, isolationism, disparities in econ- omic growth, but the most serious is thet of English-French reletions. , This English-French problem has been with us for one hundred years as ea smouldering fire. Recent events --the "Quiet Revolution" in Quebec -- have fanned that fire into a near helocaust. Outside Quebec, reaction to the increas- ing desire by French speaking Canadians for greater opp- ortunity, and equality in Confederation, hes ranged from bitter resentment to indifference and apathy. Such re- actions, in turn, result in adverse reaction amongst the French speaking Canadians, and entice even the moderates among them to more extremism. These kinds of exchanges, steming so much from misunderstanding and lack of communic- etions, are contributing heavily to the currert crisis. For these reasons, I have accepted an invitation to bring ®, panel of my colleagues from the House of Commons of Port Arthur, to debate, discuss and answer questions about the issue. We will appear on CKPR television at 6.30 to 7.00 pem. November 13 and 10.30 to 11 p.m. November 14 at a public meeting at the Lakehead University, starting at 6 pem. on November 13,0n open-line redio programs the morning of November 14, and probably at other gatherings during those two days. Accompanying me will be Mr. Grant Deachman M.P,. Vancouver-Quadra, Mr. Ovide Leflamme M.P. Quebec- Montmorency, and Parliementary Secretary to the Registrar- General, Mr. Bryce Mackasey M.P. Verdun, Quebec and Parlia- mentary Secretary to the Minister of Labour. Whatever your views are, I invite you to listen to the debates, and to join us at the meetings. Your questions and comments will be welcomed. Robert K. Andras, M.P., Port Arthur. Regretting about yesterday and fretting about tomorr- ow will not get us anywhere today...
