Council saw no object- ion té the early opening if arrangements can be made with the Recreation Committee an d Maintenance Staff. A motion was made by R.Bray seconded by R. Sinotte that two more tables and eight chairs be per- mitted until September 15 unless complaints are re- ceived from the Recreation Committee: Councillor D. Desrosier voted against the motion which was carried Reports from the Building Inspector ( S.Lundberg) and the Police Department were read. Town policemen J.Doyle and W. Whiteley are currently working extra hours in an effort to control an outbreak of vandalism. Accounts passed for payment were: Township 3118,117.21; Hydro Department $9,507.85; Library $310.60; Recreation Centre $6,611.95. KIMBERLY-CLARK SAFETY SLOGAN Silver dollar winners for knowing last week's Safety Slogan were: Eugene Coss, Gordon Schultz, Wilfred McColeman, Gerald Carron, Frank Struz- owski. Vacation time is with us. And certainly summer time is the time for fun. But we should take our safety "know-how" with us wherever we go. On the highway, we need to practice care. caution ... and courtesy in order to arrive safely. Around water, there are safety rules that should always be observed. Don't let carelessness turn pleasure into tragedy. Both on and off-the-job next week's safety slogan should be everybody's goal : " MAKE EVERY DAY A SAFE DAY" UNIVERSITY FUND DRIVE COMPLETED The fund drive for the development of Lakehead University has been completed in Terrace Bay. A total sum of $14,070. has been pledged of which Kimberly-Clark Pulp and Paper Company Limited has contributed $6,835. as a donation to match contributions given by the employees. The committee in charge of the campaign thank all those who have assisted this project. The Department of Highways announced that in future motorists exceeding posted speed limits in construction areas will be subject to speeding pen- alties as outlined in the Highway Traffic Act. Speed restriction signs will be placed and enforced by the Ontario Provincial Police. Fines of up to $200. and licence suspension of up to six months may be imposed.
