The official opening took place at the ball diamond with Reeve W.E. Cavanaugh officiating. This was followed by various races and contests for the child- ren of the town. The Art Club sponsored an Artistic Paint Throwing Contest following the races, and at 6 p.m. the Moose Lodge held a horseshoe tournamen in conjunction with the beach cook-out held for parents. During the evening, a street dance was held in front of the Municipal building, featuring the Torquays from Toronto. The weather was quite cool, but approximately 150 people attended. Saturday's activities started off with a Centennial Outdoor Breakfast at the side of the Recreation Centre, followed by a Soap Box Derby at 10.30 a.m on Lakeview Ave., sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. This was held at |.30 -- p.m. at the Curling Parking Lot. This will explain why so many young people were running all over town with little pieces of paper and maps in their hands . The Artistic Paint Throwing Contest was held again at 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon. However, due to rain, this was conducted inside the Recreation Centre. The Treasure Hunt took place at 3.15 p.m. in spite of adverse weather conditions and several of the children arrived quite early for this event and were successful . (continued on Page 9)
