Principal Don Briscoe opened the proceedings by welcoming the parents and friends and then introduc- ed Mr. Gerlach, Chairman of the Public School Board, which he described as the silent influence in school affairs. Following Mr. Gerlach, Mr. W. Rowsome, Principal of Terrace Bay High School spoke' of educational achievement and the intensified training necessary to create a truly educated person. He- spoke of the opportunities for decision making, the new experiences, the new freedoms and with them new responsibilities that would be involved in the programs that would help to make them into mature and responsible people. In stressing the importance of a rounded education, Mr. Briscoe introduced Rev. T. G. Husser who spoke briefly before the first of the pre- Hi Kids! The entire Grade 8 then received their graduating certificates from Mr. Gerlach before parents and friends invited to view the scene of the traditional party that followed in the Grade 8 room of the school .
