Vol .8, No. 48 COUNCIL QUOTES When Council met Tuesday they could learn only that Terrace Bay would have to hold two elections to form their 1966 Council. The Secretary, W.F .Strutt, relayed their solicitor's instructions, stating that if the three nominated for the four Council seats at Monday's nominations should qualify by that night they could be installed by acclamation. This would mean they would have a Council of three by accla- mation with the alternative of either appointing a fourth member or holding an election. Wm.Kurylo qualified within the time limit but Kenneth MacLeod and Councillor Ted Brown refused to qualify in order to force an election. By Wednes- day the Secretary had learned this action had put Mr.Kurylo in office by acclamation and another Nomination Night was called for December 1 to fill the remaining three seats. The scheduled election for Reeve will be held on December 6, contested by the incumb ent William J.Adamo and Councillor Verl T.Thompson. Also voted on at this election will be a plebiscite ona By-Law for Sunday movies. As Council continued their business of the meeting they held an audience with the Chairman of the Rec- reation Committee, Mr.Ken MacLeod, who stated that the Recreation Centre required the services of an additional permanent maintainence man. He outlined the work areas and salary, also noting that this would provide some relief for the Recreation Director on evening responsibility as well as vaca- tion relief. Discussing the many aspects of the job, Council passed a motion that the Recreation Commit- tee be authorized to employ a janitor-maintainence man, effective immediately. A letter from the Department of the Attorney-Gen- eral was read with regard to an inquest, and request- ing information if the recommendations made by the Coroner's Jury had been implemented. The speed limit sign had been moved but the speed limit had not been reduced though it had been requested . The Secretary was instructed to check on this latter item again. Council was notified there would be no increase in fire insurance rates due to the change over in the Fire Department. As Chairman of the Centennial Project Committee, Councillor Cavanaugh reported to Council on the mittee with representatives from all the Town's or- ganizations. Each year since Terrace Bay changed from an Im- provement District to an elective form of Municipal Government, the percentage of voters exercising their franchise has decreased.
