July 1, 1965 THE GRADUATES HONORED AT ST .MARTIN'S SCHOOL On June 28th, St.Martin's School Grade Eight Graduation ceremonies were held at a Communion Breakfast in the Parish Hall. Nineteen graduates received their promotion certificates from Very Rev. E.A.Gallagher: . Nadine MacLeod and George Dashkewytch were tied for the Kiwanis Proficiency Award and Soughton Proficiency Award. Mrs.Fred Soughton presented the latter award--two beautiful wrist watches . Mrs. C .Mercier gave Kristine Chepelsky the Ladies Auxiliary to the Royal Canadian Legion Award for Scholarship. On behalf of the Catholic Women's League, Mrs.Gale Savoy awarded Elaine Shynkaryk and Albert Cadieux Jr., with the De- portment Award. The Knights of Columbus Progress Award was given by Albert Cadieux Sr., to Karen Edmunds. Guest speaker for the occasion, Mr. John Ferrier brought greetings and good wishes from Kimberly- Clark Company. In his advisory talk to the gradu- ates he outlined the pitfalls which students should avoid to make complete use of their talents. He pointed out the goals of Christian citizens which all should strive to attain. : David Cruickshank thanked Mr .Ferrier for his ad- vice, the donors of the Awards and the Catholic Women's League for providing a tasty breakfast. Sharon St.Louis presided at the piano. AWARDS PRESENTED TO PUBLIC SCHOOL GRADS {The Grade eight class of Terrace Bay Public School sat in a semi-circle on stage Thursday after- noon before a full auditorium in the Highschool, of their families, teaching staff, fellow students and many friends, attending their Graduation. Principal Mr.Ken MacLeod addressed the gradua- tes, instructing them they must use the tools which they have learned in elementary school, now that they have reached high school . Terry Dorland of the Public School Board to present scrolls or certificates of graduation. On behalf of the Board Mr.Dorland congratulated the students: Honors--Susan Graham, Lois Ann Fraser, Kristine Olsen, Hugh Geary, Ernest Uzicanin Paul Papousek, Tom Knight, Donald McMillan, Sheila Chard, Cheryl Duncan, Lynn Simmer, Bevin Black. Pass--Donald Husser, Reid Boutilier, Linda Ballentine, Bob Gould, Marilynne Lerson, Sara Pelto Mary Clare Coupal, Jean Thorpe, Mary Jane Hopper Ray Wood, Shirley Zielke, Tony Matush, Graham Coe, Bob Benko, Donna Hiebert, Verna Daley, Carol Zielke, Tom Long, Howard Wood, Meredith Coe, Knut Schmiedschen, Bob Pidluzny. In closing Mr.Dorland paid tribute to their teach- er, Mr.MacLeod, and encouraged each of the class to continue their good work and wished them well in their efforts. The Soughton Jewellers' Award for Proficiency was attained by Susan Graham for her academic standing and was presented by Mrs.Fred O .Soughton. Mr.Hartman stressed this Shield was award- ed for all round ability, not academic alone, though there must be a standing of 70% or better. It was . based also on a vote by teachers and students. The third and final award was the Royal Canadian Legion Award, presented by Mrs.Lorette Solly on behalf of the Ladies Auxiliary to Branch 223 and the recipient was Donald McMillan. This was for academic stand- ing and selection by the Auxiliary among children of veterans. Rev.T.Garnett Husser gave the opening remarks and prayer and Tom Knight accompanied the singing of the National Anthem and the Queen. A dinner was held for the graduates and their parents Thursday in the Terrace Bay Motor Hotel, when their guest speaker, Mr.R.Steele, Inspector followed in the Public School. RESULTS OF MUSIC EXAMINATIONS Our Lady of the Angels Convent in Schreiber under the auspices of Western Conservatory of music are HONOURS - Gr.1 - Rosemary Pattison, Paul Cac- camo, Susan Johnson: PASS = Joan Persson, Cathy John Cruickshank, Tony Commisso, James Bedard. HONOURS - Gr.3 - Dayle Sisson: PASS - Brenda Hartman. HONOURS - Gr.4 - Colleen Kenney: PASS - Carolyn Glad, Barbara Stefurak.
