o April 29, 1965 Mistress of Ceremonies for this occasion, District Commissioner Mrs .Shirley Mikus, made the intro- duction of Guiders and guests seated at the head table and the members of the Local Association to Guides and Brownies who attended. She explained three of the Guides, under the direction of Mrs. Jessie St.Louis, Social Convenor, had made all arrangements for the Banquet, guests and entertain- ment and were being judged on its merits by Badge Secretary Mrs.Marg Simmer . The girls and their mothers were very giateful to have Mrs.Sam Baxter of Marathon, the Lakeland Area Camp Convenor, take time from a very hectic schedule to visit and be the program/s guest speaker. Talking on Camping, Mrs .Baxter stated that Guiding was an outdoor game and Guiding was te give the girls fun and adventure, preparing them for their future life. Camping, a girl learns to use ini- tiative and also gets satisfaction from a job well done. She felt that their tests passed during the winter preparéd her for camp life and explained how each of the Guide Laws help them to enjoy camp life thoroughly and many tips on training were passed along. Mrs .Baxter stressed to her listeners the importance of obtaining not only an arm full of badges, but their first class badge. This was a requirement: in qualifying for Heritage Camp. The first and most important ingredient was, of course, friendship. When all were blended properly together, camping could be the highlight in a Guide's year and be something to thank God for.
