LOCAL RINKS LEAD BONSPIEL WINNERS Top prizes in the Men's Fifth Annual Invitational Bonspiel were taken by Schreiber rinks with twenty- six rinks entered for the competition. Gino Caccamo was chairman for the event which ended January |7 and Alvin Slater was draw committee chairman. Winning rinks in the events were:- First Event - Burton Phillips (Schreiber) with Harold Gellert, Ralph Hewson and Bill Weaver; Second - Ernie Mc- Donald of Red Rock with Charlie Bridgman, M.Kenny and John Chase; Third - Neil Ross (Schreiber) with Earl McCouan, Lorne and Jimmy Duggan; Fourth, Gino Caccamo (Schreiber) with Dr.J.M.Cornell of Fort William, Edgar LeBlanc and Pete Blackburn of Chapleau. Second Ev ent - first, J.B.Ridsdale (Schreiber) with Alvin Slater, Len Godin and Harvey Smith; second, John Gross, Terrace Bay, with Joe Dejonghe, Lorne Vezina and Murray Dorman; third, Bob Southern, Port Arthur, with L.Belliveau, Steve Synishin and E.Belliveau; fourth, Doug Thompson, Terrace Bay, with Don Tees, Jerry Weaver and Don Wilson. Third Event - first, Jim McCuaig, (Schreiber) with Tom McCuaig, Fort William, Brian Birch and Giovan- ni Speziale; second, John Jarosz, (Schreiber) with Alf Bull, Edgar Ray and W.R.Moore; third, Benny Hayes, Terrace Bay with Harry Gusul, Joe Shubaly and J.Teniuk; fourth - Lyle Hyde, Port Arthur. Other prizes were won as follows:- First rink knocked out - Jim Beddard, Terrace Bay. Biggest End - Jim McCuaig's rink with a six ender. The Women's Club catered for the Smorgasbord din- ner held on Saturday evening in the Club room and Mrs.Nettie Thrower was convenor of the lunch com- mittee. HIGHWAY 401 TO BE MacDONALD-CARTIER Measures to be taken ta implement new Govern- ment policy with respect to the naming of Highway 40I as the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway, were an- nounced today by Ontario Highways Minister Charles S.MacNaughton. The Department is presently designing a large dis- tinctive sign bearing the new name and its historic significance which will be placed at such principal interchange points as Windsor, Toronto, Kingston, Cornwall and the Quebec border. Signs will also be placed at service centres on the Freeway and route markers showing the initials MCF in design form will be placed at frequent intervals along the high- way. lt is expected that the new'signs will be placed in the spring of 1965. JOINT INSTALLATION HELD BY CAN .LEGION A joint ceremony was held by the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 109, on Saturday evening, January 16th, when officers for both the Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary were installed. Installing Officer was Past President L.V.Bourke and Sergeant at Arms, in charge of the Color Guard was Len Hiller. The Color Guard were Frank MacDonald and Wallace McCouan. Legion officers installed were; Past President, J.L. Sawyer - President, David Gunter - Ist Vice-Presi- dent, Gino Caccamo - 2nd Vice-President, Hobden Spikula and Treasurer, A.V.Pearson, Secretary, W. |Collinson, Chaplain, George Cataford, Sgt.at Arms, Jack Winters and Branch Service Officer, L.V. Bouchie. Ladies installed were - Past President, Mrs.Len Hiller - President, Mrs. W.Paradis - Ist Vice-Presi- dent, Mrs. David Gunter - 2nd Vice-President, Mrs. Alf Bull - Secretary, Mrs. Ken Davis, Treasurer, Mrs.Lloyd Small - Warden, Mrs. A.C.Rigelsford and assistant warden, Mrs.Bruce Lidkea. The Legion executive are L.V.Bourke, Ross Hill, G.R.Gauthier, Frank MacDonald, P.R.Bailey, Neil Ross, H arold Gellert and Malcolm Boon. The Auxil- iary executive are Mesdames H. Spikula, N.A. A dinner preceded the Installation, convened by Mrs. Ivan Johnson and the evening concluded with a Cabaret Dance when the music was provided by Chas.and Richard Levigne, Don Pryor and Don Bouchie FARWELL PARTY FOR MRS.BRIAN STEWART Mrs. Leonard Huard was hostess for a farewell party for Mrs.Brian Stewart who leaves shortly to join her husband in Crofton, B.C., where they will' make their new home. After an evening of cards and games, Mrs.Wallace Weaver, on behalf of her friends, presented Mrs. Stewart with a watch and a twin sweater set. The hostess was assisted by Mrs.Earl Welbourne, Mrs.Neil Nesbitt and Mrs.Malcolm McCloud. Friends from out of town who attended the party were Mrs. Jack Moore, Mrs.Jerry Weaver, Mrs.Don Stewart and Miss Patsy Humenicki of Terrace Bay and Mrs.Malcolm McCloud of White River.
