The topic "Beachhead for Missions" led by Mrs. L. Schaan, stressed the challenge of the Christian in the world today. Lunch was served by the Hostess. Mr.and Mrs.John Didych ;of Fort William have re- turned home after a holiday with their daughters, Mrs.Gerald Fischer and Mrs. Harold Fischer and their families. Mr .and Mrs. Bill Sernesky and Sheila Jane are visiting in Anderson, California and other cities in the States. Jimmy MacDonald visited with Mr.and Mrs.George Walsh this week, enroute from Moncton, N.B. to Winnipeg. Mrs.J.Watsh has returned home after a visit in Marathon, the guest of Mr.and Mrs. John Kelly. Miss Dorothy Slater, Reg.N., who is on the staff 'at McKellar Hospital, spent New Years with her parents, Mr.and Mrs.A.W. Slater. Bob Riley, Paddy Duggan and Joyce Gauthier are patients in Terrace Bay Hospital. Jim Roffey has returned to Kingsway College in Oshawa after spending the Christmas vacation with his parents, Mr.and Mrs. R.G.Roffey. UNIVERSITY OF WATERLOO HOLDS COMPUTER SESSIONS FOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS High school students from Elmira and Camp Borden last Saturday were the first participants in weekly Computer Science Days at the University of Waterloo. During the next five months, up to 60 students from schools throughout Ontario will visit the univer- sity each Saturday for a day-long session of lectures, guidance talks and problem solving using one of the Digital Computing Centre's five computers. Com- puter Science days will also be held during Easter Week. The Computer Science Day program has been ar- ranged by Professor J.W.Graham, director of the digital computing centre and by Professor R.G. Stanto chairman of the mathematics department. "Computers are becoming more and more important in the conduct of business and scientific affairs, "says Professor Graham, " and computing has become a fascinating new career field for young people. "In addition to lectures and guidance talks during the Computer Science Day, each student will spend three hours in problem solving using a computer. He should go home feeling he has mastered a basic under- standing of the use, programming, and scope of the digital computer." The Computer Science days are limited to Grade 12 and |3 students who have attained a first class stand- ing in Mathematics in their previous year's work. Arrangements to attend a Computer Science Day may be made through the mathematics department head of local secondary schools.
