Yesterday, | saw a lad of twelve years dragging a spruce tree home late in the afternoon, his younger sister following wearily with the lunch pail. All day they had searched to find the Right tree. What a celebration there would be, as the family danced around its loaded branches the following morning. For the Christian Christmas means this, but it means more than this. There is a manger, .the Mother, the Holy Babe, Shepherds, a star, wise men from the east, and the great swelling chorus, "Oh come all ye faithful, Joyful and triumphant, Oh come ye to Bethlehem. Come and Behold Him, born the King of Angels. Oh come let us adore Him, Christ the Lord. The way to-celebrate Christmas is to gain the spirit of that scene and re-enact it again on Christ- mas day in our homes. These rules are not only part of a code according to which individuals must save their immortal souls; they are also the only foundation on which temporal prosperity and peace can be built in this world. When the angels sang at the birth of Christ, "peac on earth to men of good will," they meant that peace would be found only by human beings who would accept and apply the principles which Christ would offer to govern their relationships with one another. One of these principles is the principle of justice. This takes many forms. It takes the form of absolute honesty in all business dealings, of truthfulness of speech, of integrity in keeping promises, living up to contracts, fulfilling the given word. Another of these principles is the principle of charity. This again means many things. It means compassion and almsgiving for the underprivileged and the suffering, in one's own {Continued Page 7)
