PROJECTS ANNOUNCED BY CATHOLIC WOMEN The Catholic Women's League met on Sunday, October 4th in the Guild Hall, with Mrs. S.Kusik presiding. Minutes were read by Mrs. G.McPar- land and the Treasurer's report given by Mrs. Bill Cocks. Correspondence was read by Mrs.J.Stokes and included a fetter of thanks from Diane Peterson for the Scholarship received from the League, also a letter from Campbell Soups informing the group that they will pay the group th ree cents for each return- ed label . Convenors reported as follows:- Spiritual, Mrs. W .Cocks - three members spent one hour weekly teaching religion to pre- school age children: C.G.C. = Mrs.H.Sh ack said 51 girls are taking first aid classes and announced a bake sale on Oct. 17th and that members will solicit orders for Christ- mas Cards: Education - Mrs.M.J.McGrath request- ed members to save used postage stamps for the Scarboro Foreign Mission: Brownies - Mrs.R.Lind- berg reported 22 members in the first pack and 24 in the second. This includes eleven new members: Labels - Mrs.George Cataford reported getting twelve tea towels through labels and mare are need- ed. A wreath was ordered to be placed on Remem- brance Day by Mrs. R.J.Leblanc. The Fall Turkey Dinner will be on November Ist and the Xmas Tea vazaarand Draw on December 3rd (Mrs. Bill Mullins convening), and a Turkey Bingo.on Decemb er 15th. "Members were urged to patronize the Terrace Bay C.W.L.Tea and Bazaar on October !0th. Fa ther Cano spoke on the 'Old Testament. The Draw names were, Mrs.Jim Speziale, Mrs. Cornerstone Laying Anniversary Marked Rev. Frank Moore of Red Rock was guest speaker in St. John's Anglican church at a service marking the 50th anni- versary of the laying of the cornerstone for the present edi- fice. Added significance in Mr. Mooré's presence was the fact that his father had attended the cornerstone laying 50 years ago on Sept. 29. In his address Rev. Moore said the presence aud condition of a church might often be an * outward sign of the strength of belief of. its members. "Strong in their faith they de- sire and build the church to wor- ship in, and proud ia their faith they maintain it and improve it as need be," Rev. Moore said. Rector R. J. S. Inshaw an nounced the coming of Bishop Sabita to speak in the church Oct. 26. The bishop is attending the Anglican World Mission as @ delegate and his coming tc Schreiber is deemed a great honor. LOCALS EXCEL AT TRACK & FIELD MEET Their trainer, Bill Woodrow and the Canadian Legion, Branch 109 are understandably gratified with the achievement of their fourteen proteges who attended the Legion District No.8 Track and Field Meet in the Lakehead on October 3rd. The contingent, all from Schréiber High School won the following:- Nola Bryar, first, Bantam Girl 10 Yd.Dash; Paula Hill, two firsts - open women's broad jump and open women's 100 Yd.dash; Anna Fummerton, two firsts - Juvenile women's shot put and discus; Fred McColeman, two firsts - Jr.men's shot put and discus; Lorraine Fournier, two seconds- 440 and 880 yd. and a third in the Open women's 0 yd.dash; Paddy Duggan and Peter Christie - second in broad jumps in their age groups; Roxanne Hill, third in midget girl's broad jump; Sean Paradis third in Juvenile boy's 440. The group will continue their training in prepara- tion for the inter-school Meet in Terrace Bay on October th. BRIDE-ELECTION HONORED A Shower lea, arranged for Marie Cebrario in the Guild Hall on Wednesday night, September 30th was a sparkling affair. Mrs. Joe Cebrario received with her daughter and Miss Carole Lalonde. Tea was poured by Mrs. Arthur Moorey, Mrs. Alec Furyk, Mrs. R.B. Spadoni and Mrs. J.P.Mulligan. Servitors were Mesdames Bill Randa, Gino and Joe Caccamo, Bill. Miller, Victor Costa, Giovanni Cebrario, Miss Donna Slater and Miss Sharon Gellert. Miss Cathy O'Brien was table hostess and Mesd .
