G y Yy ct Vol.7, No.25 oo c , NORTH SHORE SPORTS LEAGUE MEETING Representatives from Marathon, Red Rock and Terrace Bay met last Friday to discuss the possibility of sports leagues for the North Shore at a Minor level. Representatives from other North Shore towns had also been invited to the meeting but were not in attendance. Results of the meeting were very favourable, with the following decisions being made := |. That the North Shore tri-town swim meet will be held this year in Marathon on August 8th. Two oth er invitational meets will be held as well at Red Rock on July 25th and August 29th and at Terrace Bay on August Ist and August 27th. 2. Minor Baseball. Minor Baseball series will be played between Terrace Bay and Marathon in the 8 and 9 year, 10 to 12 year and 13 to 15 year groups. Teams of these age groups from Terrace Bay will also compete in a softball series with Red Rock. 3. Agirls' softball tournament will be held at Ter- race Bay on Tuesday, July 14th, with teams from Terrace Bay, Red Rock and Marathon com- peting. The tournament will be divided into two age groups - 12 years and under, and 15 years and under. 4. Junior Baseball . race Bay and Red Rock will compete with one another and an attempt will be made to enter an allstar team chosen from these two to compete against Lakehead Junior teams. 5. 'Junior Tennis Tournament. A North Shore junior tennis tournament will be held at Marathon on August 15th in three age divisions - 12 years and 6. Minor Lacrosse. With so many of the high school age boys involved in jobs or away on vacations, it was decided that lacrosse will not commence made to form local house leagues of high school age boys and to have allstar teams from the three teams compete during September and October. JUNIOR BOWLING Any young people between the ages of 12 and 16 years who would be interested in taking part in a summer bowling league, are asked to attend a meeting this Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in the Old Library Room of the Recreation Centre. It is hoped that this will be a mixed five-pin league and that the sessions will be held each Sat- urday morning. If you are interested, don't miss this meeting. Serving the district PLAYGROUND NEWS Junior baseball teams from Ter- under, 15 years and under and 18 years and under until September. At that time an attempt will be July 2, 1964 The Summer Playground Programme commenced on Tuesday morning and will run Mondays through Fri- days for the balance of the summer. Once again parents are asked to note that the Playground sche- dule is for children of school age only, and is as follows := 9 a.m. to 12 noon - children who DO NOT take swimming classes. 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. - children who DO take swimming classes. Fridays - every Friday is Special Event Day. Child- ren will be informed of the special event well in advance. Take advantage of the wide variety of playground activities by having your children attend regularly. SWIMMING POOL NEWS Pool hours for the months of July and August are as follows:- Week-days - 9 a.m. tol p.m. - swim classes . ] p.m. to 6 p.m. = open swimming 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. = adult classes 7 p.m. to9 p.m.=-15 years and over. Week-=ends - 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. - open swimming 6.30 to 9.30 p.m. = 15 years and over only. THESE HOURS MAY BE CHANGED IN CASE OF EMERGENCY OR WEATHER EXTREMES. SWIMMING CLASSES People taking swimming classes are reminded that they are to attend sessions regularly and only at the hours indicated. It is very important that they attend all sessions regularly regardless of weather, as water safety knowledge and artificial respiration will be taught on bad weather days. PLEASE NOTE THA' ONLY THOSE WHO HAVE ATTENDED AT LEAST 75% OF THE REGULAR CLASSES WILL BE ALLOWED TO TRY THEIR SWIMMING TESTS. With so many people enrolled for swimming classes, it will require regular attendance and practice to be sure that all swimmers are prepared by test time. Anyone who has not yet registered for swimming classes should contact either Marvin Steen or Wendy Duncan at the pool immediately. Classes commenced on Tuesday, June 30th, and the first test period will be held near the end of July. Second instructional classes period will be held during the month of August. This means that a swimmer could possibly attain two awards this year IF THEY ATTEND CLAS- SES REGULARLY AND PRACTICE CONSTANTLY. Please note that only those taking part in the lessons will be allowed in the pool area at the desig- nated class times.
