Reeve Heenan presided with Coun- cillors Fraser, Brown and Cavanaugh attending. W. Sernesky reported on work completed in widen~ ing and curbing the east end of Simcoe Plaza. His request for recompense due to the extra work involved in raising the curbing four inches was approved by Council after conferring with the Roads Superinten- dent. The amount established was $75 above the contract price. Council accepted the recommendation from the Separate School Board to appoint K. MacLeod re- placing W.J.Cavanaugh who resigns from the High School Board. Insurance rates and terms for the Recreation Centre were approved. D.A.Snell, District Engineer for the Department of Highways wrote with regard to the contract paving in Terrace Bay. Approval was given for the work to be carried out in accordance with the Department's regulations. Contractor is Disher-Farrand of Toronto. | Copy of By-Law 162, supplementary roads expendi- ture for 1964 in the amount of $36,488 was sent to the Dept .of Highways, Toronto, for approval . The local Chamber of Commerce reported on the Spring clean-up tour taken by their committee to- gether with representatives of Council. Complimen- ting first the residents on their efforts, the committee submitted several recommendations to Council . With townspeople using the ease~ient from Pine Crescent to the C.P.R.Station, it was felt appear- ance could be improved by a walk. Grading at the entrance of Kenogami Road to Highway 17 was ano- ther recommendation for appearances. Extensive brushing below the Hotel could increase the present view of Lake Superior. A suggestion for progressive installation of trunk sidewalks was made, in order to eliminate trespassing on private property. Scrap material in the residential areas came under fire, and recommendations made to notify offenders. Reeve Heenan requested a letter of appreciation be sent to the Chamber of Commerce for their sug- gestions, many of which they hoped to see implemen- ted next year. The Recreation Account in the amount of $7,038 .7 was approved for payment. The mill rates were presented and discussed by Council with Secretary W.F .Strutt given tentative approval to prepare extensions. Due dates for taxa- tion were again July 2 and September 2. Ken Ward, Recreation Director, reported further on the proposed purchase (continued on page 4) SUMMER PROGRAMME PLANS Once again the Recreation Association will offer programmes for the youngsters through the Swimming and Playground Programmes. Staff for this summer will be as follows:- Play- ground Supervisor - Ainsley Middaugh -- Playground Leaders - Janis McInnes and Darlene Larson. Pool Supervisor and Instructor - Marvin Steen == Assistant Instructor - Wendy Duncan. Lifeguards - to be announced. Make sure your child takes full advantage of the variety of activities affered this summer. Program- mes commence on June 29th. LACROSSE MEETING THURSDAY A Lacrosse meeting will'be held in the small room of the Recreation Centre at 7 P.M. this Thursday. ANYONE INTERESTED, EITHER AS A PLAYER, COACH OR IN ANY OTHER CAPACITY, PLEASE BE THERE. If sufficient interest is shown, and assistance forth coming, we will attempt to start Canada's "Nation al Sport" in Terrace Bay. CADET INSPECTION AND AWARDS The Annual inspection of Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps Superior was carried out Monday even- ing, May 25 in the Terrace Bay Arena with the Inspecting Officer, Commander D.Binmore RC N(R) Commanding Officer of H.M.C.S. Griffon. Accom panying Commander Binmore on his tour of inspection was Sub.Lieut. P.Levy RCN, the Assistant Area Officer of Sea Cadets from Toronto. Lt.J.Cumming, Commanding Officer of R.C.S.C.C. Superior took the salute with the Inspecting Officer for the March Past. Displays were carried out in both the Arena and in the Post Office Building, with the Public invited to view the work of the Corps. The Seamanship Class was under the instruction of A/P |I K.Wood and A/P Il T. Gerow. A/C W.E. Brown received the Award as Best Cadet donated by the Terrace Bay Branch of the Navy Lea- gue of Canada and the Winnipeg Division were awarded the Shell Oil Trophy donated by Mr. R. Sinotte as the Best Division. The Trophy was accept- ed by A/P II K.Wood. Martial music was provided by the Terrace Bay Band throughout the Inspection.
