Ot. ©. 21 COUNCIL QUOTES The May 12th meeting of the Town Council found Reeve J.P. Heenan presiding with Councillors Fraser and Cavanaugh in attendance. A motion was passed to establish a minimum wage of .85¢ in the Snack Bar as determined by the Dept. of Labour. A cheque in the amount of $1,983.00 was received from the Dept. of Municipal Affairs for the 1962-63 winter works program. Notice was received of the town tour by the Civic Improvement Committee of the Chamber of Commerce when they were accompanied by two members of Council and recommendations of this Committee will be presented to Council. A larger Company house would be made available to the Assistant Clerk, W. Hanley, when one became vacated but Council would be expected to continue their efforts to provide ade- quate housing themselves. Advance payment of $1,150.00 as twenty five per- cent of the 1963 subsidy payment from the Dept. of Highways was received fram C.S. MacDonald, Minister of Highways. This Dept. was to be notified of commencement of asphalt paving in the Township on Tuesday, May 19th, with regard to asphalt testing. The tender of B.J. Comeau in the amount of $325.00 for grass cutting in the business section was accepted on a motion by Council. The Kiwanis Club notified Council of their desire to bring in the Spangler Brothers Show for their Circle Route Fish Derby on the Civic holiday weekend and the matter was discussed. Councillor Cavanaugh ex- pressed the desire to represent Council at the Regional meeting on Bilingualism May 26th in Port Arthur. One fire with damage under $75.00 was reported in Terrace Bay during April, and in his report, Fire Chief Hofland stated volunteers had the fire out in fifteen minutes with salvage and clean-up complete in twenty five minutes. He credited the Police Dept. with ex- cellent control of traffice during this period. Two practices of one hour duration each were held by the Dept. volunteers, split in two teams for rescue work or pump work. Town accounts for April were perused and passed for payment as:- Public Library $512.58, Hydro $16,630.08, Snack Bar $257.88 and Township $62,980.27. BONNIE HAMILTON RECEIVES GOLD CORD Guiding's highest achievement - the Gold Cord was awarded to Bonnie Hamilton Wednesday evening as her Mother, Mrs. H. Hamilton added the Gold Cord to Bonnie's Guide uniform, already resplendent with rows of Proficiency badges. Brownies, Guides, Guiders and Commissioners assembled in the Terrace Bay Auditorium Wednesday evening to honor Bonnie with their Gold Cord Ceremony. She had previously travelled to North Bay with her parents on May 13th to receive, along with other district Guides, the Gold Cord Certificate. Officiating Guiders were from the First Terrace Bay Guide Company. Captain L. Downey, Lt. O. Chapman and Lt. E. Falzetta, assisted by Aguasabon District Commissioner S.
