C.W.L. CONVENTION NEXT WEEK The Ft. A busy program has been drawn up for the session which will be attended by the Rev. Directors and members of the thirty four parish councils in the Dio- cese of Ft. William. Theme will be "Revitalization of the Catholic Way of Life". Rev. J. Cano is director of the convention committee and Mrs. W. Cocks general convenor . (Continued) ARTIFICIAL ICE FUND COMMITTEE REPORTS A meeting of the above committee was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday, April 29th. Although this meeting was well advertised by notices sent through the mail to every home in Schreiber, it was very poorly attended. It is very dish eartening for the small group of people who have worked so hard for 1 1/2 years on such a worthy project to see so little interest taken. A discussion was held on the feasibility of instal- ling an ice plant. It was pointed out that there are two other projects that must be attended to before it would be wise to instal the ice plant. The Arena badly needs a new roof and a basement is necessary to insure space for the ice plant. These two projects will entail a large sum of money. We, of the artifi- cial ice committee are looking to the future of the young people of Schreiber so that, in the years to come, they will be able to enjoy the pleasures of the Arena for almost double the time that they can now . We have been led to understand that our Arena is utilized far more than many others in this district for public skating and so we believe it would be for the benefit of our skating folks to have artificial ice. We would gladly welcome any person who would like to join our committee and help us in this project. Great praise is due to a few willing workers who have given so freely of their time and use of cars when needed. At this time we extend a very special vote of thanks to Mr.Keith Scott, O.P.P., manager of the house league hockey club and to Mr. W. Woodrow, manager of the Juvenile club, for their great assistance to our fund by turning over the en- tire gate receipts from the three games. The following is a report on the various activities to raise money since formation of the Artificial Ice Committee:- Sources of Income - House Canvassing $ Special Donations Hockey Pools (2 seasons) Home Bingos Hall Bingos Raffles Bottle Drive Canteen Workers 1,861 .00 950.00 1,800.00 900.00 1,814.85 200.00 Loesee 300.00 8,082.57 Canteen Workers-to be turned in 800.00 GRAND TOTAL for 1 1/2 years $ 8,082.57 As of the first of May, 1964, a total of $7,000.00 has been invested.
